Because they want to?? If a kid wants to play multiple sports and the parents are able to help them juggle then good for them.

Do you control when your kid goes to the bathroom and help wipe their arse too?

I guess this is my point. It is inappropriate for any team to have schedules outside of the olympics to have a schedule that excludes kids from a life. This is either a money grab to justify high fees or it is coaches ego and all about winning. It has NOTHING to do with what is best for your child.

      The Adultification of Youth Sports

Youth sports has become less a tool to educate children about sport and life, and more often a place where parents go to be entertained by their kids.

Actually, we outsource that to some domestic servant we hired.

Not enough hours in the day to go to High School, family time, church, social time then play multiple sports for the High School and the club team. The time commitment the High School program wants even at the JV2 and JV level is upwards of 4 hours a day with travel.

Then sandwich in a club practice in the sport I'm the best at?

Should I play my 2nd sport basketball for the JV 2 HS team, I do love playing basketball but I'm not really that good at it compared to my first love Soccer, where I was an all-league HS player and a full time starter on a decent club team that has signed up to travel all over the country for it's league play. Sacrificing fun time basketball (JV2) for serious fun and competition in club soccer is not something I want to do. But, It's a decision I have to make and it's not a hard one. Even if the HS JV basketball coach says I'm abandoning my friends and the program for Soccer. Now if I was an all-league freshman varsity basketball player I would give up funtime girl soccer (JV 2 HS) to play year round club basketball. Funny thing is the HS JV 2 Soccer coach never gives me a guilt trip about ditching the JV 2 girls in Soccer

Anyone who says I should only play HS sports and not the club sport in which I excel is not really interested in what's best for me, instead what's best for them.

In this case she is either a phenom in both Basketball and Soccer.

            Or very mediocre in both.

The High School coach will mandate they come to everything and can't miss practice or games, regardless of ability. The club coach will force them to quit the other sport unless they are a phenom.

            Great stuff.

In Oregon we call our High School teams either Varsity, JV or JV2.

                Where are you from?

I'm from Oregon. My kid has never been on one of these "JV" or JV2" teams, so I was confused.

If you only play soccer year round you wouldn't have a chance to be a multi sport HS player in basketball or softball or track and field as a JV or JV2 player, makes sense why your kids has never been a JV or JV 2 player.

You avoided that reality and choice club soccer. Smart move :)

many schools do not have the funding or the number for jv and jv2. i think maybe that is what threw them off.

I think the original poster's question is what if your kid wants to play in high school.

                          Perhaps the answer should be:

If you the parent is not using the child's youth soccer as their sole source of entertainment and can deal with and juggle any scheduling then go for it. Many kids successfully club soccer and high school sports. On the other hand if you as a parent think that your child needs to concentrate most of their free time on club soccer then NO your child should not play other sports.

In my opinion this is a family dynamic issue and not one that others can debate on your behalf. There are many schools of thought on raising children. Most are different and most get the job done. Good luck OP on making your decision and realize there is life outside of club soccer.

No, I just checked our HS and they have those JV and JV2 teams you mention. Just my kid was never on any of them.

Sorry when your kid didn't make the HS program team they took a spot on the HS Coed Rec team. At least your kids get to play.

                              Have a great day!

Oh, so it's your kids that are playing on those JV and JV2 teams. I wondered who is filling those spots. We only know of those Varsity teams. It's pretty sad if you are in club soccer and you don't make Varsity. Even your freshman year. Unless you are a really mediocre club player, then it is understandable. Hey, good luck this season, surly by their junior year they can crack the varsity, at least as a swing player. Best of luck to you and them.
