The Thorns Academy has a very strong collection of talent. It would be fun to see them play FCP and thusc elite league teams.

ECNL is heavy on competition - girls play for results EVERY game...there is little development through quality training...these girls are taught to compete - most of these girls aren't even ready to compete yet as they don't even know how to play the game yet.
Thorns Academy - very heavy on development...results don't matter. You will see a second Academy Team start up next year.
both will attract players, neither will be going away soon.

Games are games. Teams play to win. Practice is where kids learn to play. To say games don't matter is pure foolishness. Kids want to win as well as their coaches and parents. This is how you ultimately judge a program. Success.

I would imagine that at some point you will see a scrimmage between the Thorns and various age group ECNL teams. The northern Crossfire counterpart scrimmages local college and even had scrimmages against the Sounders (Crossfire lost :-)) It would be good practice to fill in the long lapses between league games.

Looks like WashT Greens forfeited instead of taking the 10+ goal spanking that was coming their way...

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThat makes sense. However, as is apparent, even though this would be a scrimmage, much would be made about any outcomes. No one would take into account that scrimmages are very different from games, so any outcome is far from concrete.

ECNL and thorns are two different animals....
ECNL is about competition and results
Thorns is about development.
Both draw the players that want those things.
Two different markets and its your choice. I think it's great to have both of those choices
