Where do the extra Thorns Academy Players Play?

Seems to be 27 names on the Thorns Academy roster (23 plus 4 alternates). Where do the girls that never get to play for the Thorns play at all? They aren't allowed to play for a club team. Do they just get very good at riding the pine? Or have the defections left the Thorns with far less than 27 on the roster?

With those that have quit and injuries they only have 19. The alternates play with other teams. I do not know what the plan was for the 5 if they had them all.

I'm not the OP, but I'm curious. I thought there was I big 'reserve' squad as well, like almost another 25 girls.

A little touchy? I asked simply because the TA lemmings constantly remark that the ECNL teams have too many players. Seems the Academy is the worst offender of all.

No one said you have too many player, we said you have too many bad players and not enough good ones.

So all the posts about huge ECNL rosters just to fund the program were made by "no one"? Seems like the Timbers are using huge rosters to fund their program. Maybe that's how they are able to cap the costs for those travelling...

The fees are $1250 per year which is lower than most club fees and almost half of ECNL fees.

my DD is a reserve player for the Thorns, she enjoys the training as most do.
There are 6 reserve player and 5 of them are also doing ECNL. It's strange, they are starters for ECNL teams but reserve players for Thorns.

Not so strange. They are reserve because they are too young to play for the Thorns.

Actually this is wrong. There are 99's on the Thorns roster and 1 2000. Nice try though

If that's true then there must not be a lot of depth at the 97/98 ages in the Academy. No wonder they finished 4th in FWRL. But it does sound like the vast majority of the top 97/98 players chose ECNL, which was the smart thing to do.

Top players eh? Explains all of the offers they have gotten over there in ECNL land.
