Guidelines for Young Athletes to Reduce Injuries

    Good read. Common sense mostly.

"Experts say as much as 50% or 60% of injuries in young athletes are due to overuse."

Kids get injured, so do adults. It can come from over-use, it can come from falling off a bike, or you can just accidentally close a car door on a finger - yikes!

if your soccer player is training/playing a lot, make sure that their trainer is educated in proper stretches, strength training, and muscle building activities. Our club has once a week training that focus exclusively on the overall player's fitness levels. Also, players with better technique are less likely to get injured. If you are using the wrong for to make a pass, and use your weaker muscles, you are more likely to strain yourself that way.

If your son or daughter has an injury, get it checked out, and follow the doctor's instructions. If they need to take a break, let them take a break.

I'm curious how many of the over-use injuries are from soccer. My guess is that those injuries would be higher for baseball, gymnastics, lacrosse, tennis, and dance.
