Which is why you have to twirl your hair when you are stopped at a red light. Men choose this time to scratch.

Probably true. I have 2 DD's playing premier soccer. One has been on the club A team since the beginning. She is strong, aggressive, and a real gamer. She wants to win, and she wants to be the best. The other was a swing player between the A and B teams when she was U11. She was always aggressive and strong, but lacked the skills of most of the A team girls, and I couldn't convince her enough to work on her skills. The B team player was crushed when she didn't make the A team at U12. I hoped she would respond with a fighters attitude and work her butt off to make the A team the next year. Instead, she just settled in to her B team and got comfortable. I don't think she wants to feel the pain of not making the A team, so she just quite trying. She is now U14 and her team is full of girls that have been B team players for years. Many of these girls work very hard, and have developed a lot, but are never going to be athletic enough to make the A team.

By athletic I mean a combination of physical and mental aggression and speed. The typical A team players I have seen over the years will beat the B team players to the ball 100% of the time, and will usually throw in a good body check once there for good measure. The B team players seem to allow the A team players to get the ball without confrontation, and try to defend.

I also find it interesting how different my attitude is at each of the girls games. The A team player's games I am all jacked up and want the team to win. I feel nervous and am really into the outcome of the game. The B team player's games are just a chance to enjoy watching my DD have fun playing with her friends. I could care less about the outcome. I guess as a parent I care when they care, and I don't seem to care when they don't seem to care.

I am still hopeful my B team player will get her fire back, put in some work on her skills, and realize her potential. She is going to be in high school soon and I would love to see both girls playing varsity soccer together.
