    Good point.
    Huh?

WST should officially call their girls program for what it is. 'select'. Talk about your dead end for aspiring young female athletes.

Let's see, using your analogy, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl last year, but did get beat by Arizona. So I guess Seattle wasn't very good since they lost to Arizona. You seem to base a team's success on one game rather than over the entire season which saw them win every league they were in. As to Regionals, interesting definition of "thumped" given they lost two games, each by a margin of 1-0. One was to a dominant SoCal team and the other was to the team that went to the championship game and earlier in the season, went to the championship game at Surf. If that is being "thumped", then you better come up with a much stronger word for what will happen to the local ECNL teams when they begin playing.

        Comparing

the WST/WSM Boys program to it's own girls program is akin to comparing any local boys clubs teams to the Westside program, they are all 'classic' teams.

Westside has a history of being so dominant and talented on the boys side it's not fair to compare any boys or girls club team to them.

Every one of Oregon clubs produce boys and girls team that compete at a state level.

Westside has National and Regional Success with many boys teams(more than 10 + teams) for over a decade.

No girls club has had any national or regional level club wide success over any stretch in the last 10 years.

Sure there might be an odd team every 5 to 7 years at a local club that believes it can compete at a Regional level, but that's not a 'club' hallmark, that's called a team like Ireland, one without a club. Or the ESU Liverpool team. They are not products of a club system, just extra motivated dads/mom and coach dad's who recruit the very best players to come play together many times on full ride's or no fees just so they can say they once recruited great players as teenagers. Whoopee. One and done.

FC Portland in the early 90's and mid 90's had strong boys and girls teams. Westside had strong boys and girls teams from the later 90's to mid 2000's. Since then only Westside boys has been able to sustain a year in and year out high level boys teams.

Talking about any Girls club at this level is simply ludicrous or delusional. It's not here in Oregon. It won't be for a long time when a state as small as Oregon dilutes it's talent pool of Girls with the self proclaimed (2) ECNL teams and the Thorns Academy.

Being average on the Girls side of things it the high water mark these days. Congrats to the ECNL & Thorns academy for making a small fish bowl of talent into multiple puddles of murky kaka...the silver lining is it only cost's 10K a year to wear these soiled kits.

Didn't FCSC just win the NPL national title? Granted it is the NPL and they're in SW WA.
I don't think the previous poster was necessarily comparing the boys and girls side at WST, at least that's not how I read it. But was comparing the girls side to the 'murky' water that is the OPL and OYSA. Even by those lesser standards they have not done well.

            You got it

The entire landscape of Girls Soccer at the 'club' level is mediocre at best. So be it.

It's shame that now it costs 10K a year to be mediocre. That's all.
