It's one thing to pay for tuition, it's another to include the actual costs of attending, such as room and board. Which would put it closer to 15-20K and that's for the local state schools. If your dd opts to go to a decent private school, you would be looking at 2-3x that each year.
So what is your point…Yes College is more expensive than just tuition. One more reason not to spend money chasing a scholarship with limited chance of getting it.

Because me spending all of this money so that I can call my dd Elite is worth it. Now stop telling me how to spend my money.

My point was that college (to better schools) is WAy more expensive then soccer and that most of parents of those playing don't expect scholarships. If they get them, then great but they are not banking on them. They are playing because they love the competition. Take your dd out and play a rec. match. It's fun for about 5 minutes and then she will never want to do it again.

It sounds like you have poisoned your kids love of the game...probably your attitude of "what is it going to get me? My son (in college now) played at a very high level on one of Oregon's best teams over the last few years. He loves the game and loves to play at a very high level. That being said there were multiple times as we were traveling on vacation in San Diego, Munich etc where he would see people just playing a knock around game and he would join them and play for hours.

If you want your kid to succeed the first thing you need to help them with is building a love for the game. "What does it do for me...?" is the worst question to start kids with.

Hm... interesting that this poster doesn't seem to understand the difference between a rec game and a pick up game.
They're vastly different, and my kids love pick up and hate rec.

I won't claim to understand what goes on inside your mind...earlier it seems the definition was anything non-ECNL was Rec, so whether you are using it in the pejorative sense or if you mean no score keeping, everyone wins and gets a trophy...I don't know. My understanding however is that for high school age and up the latter does not exist. Every game played on a for pay field is to some degree competitive. Do there is the competitive field they are paying to stand on, and I would call anything else "pickup". I'm not sure if by your tec example you are suggesting having 14 YOs play with 8 YOs, but I think you are the one who seems confused.

Really? I suspect you hate tec, and you are transposing that onto your child. I have never heard a child honestly say they "hate Rec". More often they find it kind of attractive because they are so sick of the overbearing parents yelling at them all game long.

If your child "hates rec" I suspect it is only from your brainwashing...

Wow. Post of the week. Not.

                      Go back to your cave.

These threads have gotten tired and stale. Same garbage argued over and over.

ECNL is now a thing. Either do that thing or don't.

Funny how you are so defensive. I don't believe I personally told you what to do with your money. I just commented that with the expense of college it doesn't make sense to spend money chasing scholarships.

Sorry you took this so personally

But if you're not "chasing scholarships" then it's OK?

And I just commented that you should stay away from the video poker machines. It is your money though.
