What Price would make you do ECNL?

Reading the ECNL merger announcement for Crossfire Premiere and Seattle United I was struck by the last sentence where they said that price to participate would drop from $5,500 to $4,900. Now I image that is the price for the 14 & 18 age groups and the 15,16 and 17's pay more to reflect their additional travel but still that is a far cry from the numbers the local clubs are asking players to absorb.

When I read that I wondered if the people who are resistant to the ECNL locally would have the same objection if it was just $1,100 more than what the Thorns are offering for a blended team?

So what is the price break point for our local market? I know there people in this chat room who hate individual coaches and even entire clubs but on a "conceptual" basis is $5,000 the magic number?

$5,000 seems to be the number!

Well since even the ECNL's harshest critic's have not chimed in to say that was too much for the opportunity to play in the top Girls league in the country we have to conclude $5,000 is a figure not even they object to.

So that begs the question, what can the two ECNL clubs do to generate corporate sponsorship and fundraising to supplement the costs to hit the target?

Imagine just how good those teams could be if they really did have 95% of the talent from the area in those age groups!

About a little more than I pay now for club fees and the costs of travel. If a ECNL team can't figure out how to do the program economically with some benefits of scale, then what else are they not doing. This shouldn't be FC PDX figuring out new ways to cost parents money.

Probably not. Your current club team if good, also travels.... a lot. 'The quality' of team may or may not be better today, but the league is.

Other than this year's CU U14's there is only ONE team outside the current clubs that can say they are even on par let alone better and they have disbanded and form the core of the Academy and any other team who was consider competitive has also lost players to the Academy.

I get your point about waiting but there are and will be no other "better" girl teams U15+.

I'm not sure you are correct but I will be watching the scores to find out.

The last thing they (ECNL teams) need is some self righteous gas bag on the sidelines. Stay in the split league OPL/OYSA league. Put in your application for Surf Cup and hope, but get denied. It will be cheaper and you can feel good about how your dd's team is better then everyone else, somehow. There will be no evidence, but you will feel like they are Brilliant.

Anyone who follows youth soccer knows ecnl is the top league for girls. No thorns academy or other league for that matter can compare. You can choose to go a different path but at the end of the day the only one that does not benefit is you. If your dd is one of the good ones then ecnl becomes the obvious choice. Unless of course you buy in to all the garbage put out by the timbers organization. In time ecnl in Portland will draw the top players. It will just take time

Self righteous gas bag believing their daughter is better than they really are, and feeling good about their team being better than it really is...wow, seems like you have described every ECNL parent we have ever heard from.
