I really can't grasp how screwed up Oregon youth soccer is. Are all states this messed up when you come to youth soccer? And why do us, the parents, participate, paying money, spending precious time and putting up with egos of some parents, coaches and clubs. Are we crazed by the need for our child to be the star. We see the actual numbers of kids that end up with a college scolarships or drop out at a young age, yet we put up with nutty driven team parents, the manipulation and politics that are in every club. We are promised, lied to, threatened by clubs, coaches and club leaders. Yet we hand over sizable checks to these people. We come up with a multitude of reasons why we continue, "its what my child wants". What a joke, and the people that say they let their child make the decisions need to seek treatment. I would never run a business with this ethical belief, but I participate in this mess called Oregon youth soccer. I am hoping any day now that I will come to my senses, and stop making excuses and exit this monster! I keep hoping that along the way someone with a sound mind will make this all about the kids, like it should be.

Money?
There are now so many divisions in youth soccer in Oregon. ECLN, OPL, Academy, OPL, OYSA and probably others. Is it about the money, power, whoes name is on what? How can we represent our state in any out of states tournaments and be successful. We have divided ourselves so much. Every one is promised that your kid is great! come join us and bring some money. We are certain to be at the bottom!

They all want equality unless it hurts their DD.
I mean, looki at how our schools are run now, we are raising soft kids....it's always the "system" that is the reason for my DD to fail...not because my DD won't get of their arse and do the work.
In the end we as parents are the problem

Problem.
Oregon seems to have, as well as much of Washington, an over abundance of English accent coaches and club staff. Mostly they are under-educated by their own country's standards and are not the worldly gentlemen they would like us to believe they are. Combine these folks with all-American soccer hanger-ons that can't make it in college or professional soccer jobs. Then input a high dose of under-educated ego and we have Oregon soccer. Add to the mix those parents that are so intellectually inquisitive that they make posts here like "what are the minimum GPA and SAT scores to play D1 or D2 soccer" rather than actual look for themselves. Of course, all parents know that their child is so good that they are considering the kid drop out of grade school to pursue their professional soccer career. In a phrase, you can't fix stupid. SoCal has more population and real coaches and clubs have emerged. We don't have that luxury in Oregon.

America’s lack of international success stems from its development system, yes, but not because it fails to develop poor players (though that may play a part). It’s that the development of an American soccer player generally includes a collegiate/amateur system that doesn’t produce professional players until they’re 22, while the best European teams find and develop talented 16- to 18-year-olds. American players get a smaller window of professional opportunity, which means fewer caps at their physical peak, which means less experience against the world’s best. Hence a less successful national team.
This will change as MLS grows. More screen time on ESPN means more fans means more money means more pressure on the teams to find diamonds in the rough. There will be more opportunities for poorer players to succeed before the long grind of the amateur world attrits the less fortunate, but the system will always favor those with more money. This is unfair, yes, but it also fits in with how the rest of the world operates.

Oregon is a train wreck in soccer, particularly on the girls side, exponentially crazy girl parents here. Why? I haven't a clue. It's too bad because we love our soccer here. We are just too freaking crazy to make the most of it.
