When did this forum stop having mostly registered users? With all the old bumped threads I got curious and went to see threads from the beginning and almost every poster was registered.

The moderator popped in here when it was getting really nasty at one point and said that if they require people to log in, it goes silent. You let them be anonymous, then it gets a lot of action.

Makes sense, even if it is ugly.

The controversial issues drive lots of hits and the hits = advertising revenue.

The pop-up advertising pays for this site. If you force people to register, the number of users goes way down as does the advertising revenue. It wouldn't be hard to move to a moderated site if people wanted to. In fact, there is already one in existence
