    Just saying.

    Completely agreed.

On the other hand Will Johnson and Osvaldo Alonso are hacks and both tackles were terrible.

Maybe we can all learn from Porter on his response. Pure class.

Well I am glad someone else noticed Porter's response. Perhaps the trolls on TS can begin to learn something from it.

His response was very classy, to bad two of his players were less than classy on the field. Ridgewell decided to kick a player that was 10 yards off the ball and then Johnson was his normal self running and sliding all over the place. Neither should have been playing in the game, could understand Pep's frustration but he should have at least shook CP's hand.

The Pep defenders like to point out that this was a pre-season exhibition game for Bayern so the rules should be different. That argument also ignores that it was an exhibition game for the MLS players too. They don't want to get hurt anymore than the Bayern players did because they're professionals as well. Too many of the commentators are treating the MLS players as if they were a bunch of wide eyed amateurs where this was going to be the highlight of their respective lives. That's simply not the case. They might be pros with a little something to prove, but they're still pros.

Ref let too much go early on, and as is often the case that doesn't end well....

I thought it was a pretty soft game. Even the three yellow card plays didn't look that bad. In a normal game at least one, if not two, of them would be fouls only.

Bayern players were getting hit all game. Still should give a handshake at the end, but MLS was excessive throughout.

The Alonso tackle was pretty bad but that's how he plays. He deserved the yellow card. The Johnson foul was really just a normal foul where two players arrived at the same time and collide. Other than that it was a pretty tame game. The Bayern coach needs to take a chill pill.

Listen, the value of pretty much any of the Bayern players exceeds the value of all of the MLS players combined. The value of Bayern as a club exceeds the MLS easily. Should Pep have snubbed Porter, no, but let's not pretend that this game was anything but an annoying publicity tour and as a coach he is thinking about the potential cost of losing a player for the upcoming season. It is like taking your show dog to a dog park to play with a bunch of mutts, if they play hard and your dog gets his ear torn you are out a $10,000 show dog because you let him play with dogs that people adopted for the $60 cost of the shots it got at the pound.

If they were so concerned about injuries why did they even bother come to play. Every time they play whether it is a friendly, league or international game, there is a potential to get hurt. Sure, the Bayern players cost a lot of money but that's the risk they take coming in to the US to play against MLS all stars. Sorry that you find this event an "annoying publicity tour." As someone who enjoys soccer, we loved it. Bottom line is it is a business and both MLS and Bayern could use the the exposure.

Using a word like 'annoying' to describe the game says much more about you than the game.
It was a very enjoyable game to watch until little peppy had his feelings hurt because his precious team got outplayed and beat by a very good MLS team. The tackles were just a convenient excuse.

Not the original poster here, but I think you are not understanding his/her point. I doubt many people here thought the game was annoying and, as someone who was there, we can all say it was an incredible event which represented Portland very well.

The point is that Pep and his team probably thought the game was annoying but, like other business activities, responsibility to build the brand in this huge market were worth what they felt the risk and costs were. I hate what Pep did, but let's be realistic. If any of us were the coach (like Porter said) we would have been pissed to see one of the other team going in so hard against one of the best CM's in the world during a pre-season game. If Bastian gets hurt it could cost him a shot at the title again, could hurt in UCL and other competitions.

Pep's snub of Caleb was childish and some of the luster has been removed in my mind but him being pissed that it happened is understandable. Although Pep said differently after the game, I doubt they participate in such a game anytime soon. I think they will play more typical friendlies in the future in the US but more like against clubs, not the All-Stars.

By the way, I thought the All-Stars played very well but I also hope that no one gets the impression that we are on-par. In 1 month, that same exact starting line-up would hand it to the All-Stars. Put in the big guns, no comment.
