The cost of ECNL is only $500 more than what I was paying to my old club. If you live in OR and you want to play great competition and play in showcase events then you have to get on an airplane and spend several nights in a hotel. I wish the Thorns Academy all the luck and success in the world, but I have a hard time believing that the Timbers will pay the travel expenses (airfare, lodging, rental car, and food) for 4-5 BIG Showcase events per year. Sounds like "Hope" that another leading has been selling. How is that working for the one's who were looking for CHANGE

First, I would agree that placing a patch on your jersey saying you are elite does not make it so. Playing ECNL will give you more quality games over a season than playing OPL or OYSA, no one can argue differently (at least logically).

I'm not sure what drugs you are on to think its $500. I don't know of many teams that spent $5000 on travel and fees last year. Even if you did ODP. ECNL has advertised their cost estimates to be in excess of $8000, so you seem to be urinating into the wind with your arguement.

The bottom line is the ECNL cost DIFFERENCE over the Academy for the 17's will be $5,000.
For that $5,000 you will get literally twice as many games and be seen by twice as many coaches.
The choice highlights the old saying ....."you get what you pay for"!

Across town and over the river doesn't count as "travel"

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostTake it up with Fraser and the FC people as they were the one's who calculated those costs. If it's being misrepresented, it isn't by any of the posters here, it's by the ECNL folks.
The $8,500 figure for the 16's & 17's has been adjusted up from what CU posted to account for a Playoff farther away than Seattle PLUS a $400 contingency to account for higher airfare. So please stop listening to the Haters and realize that these player expenses are not pulled out of then air but real life experiences adjusted for the next year plus a contingency.
