The more you know. Consider yourself better educated now.
I know Utah is Boises travel partner. They could have been Thuscs partner is what you don't get. I know you think all things THUSC are wonderful and good but those of us outside of the cult know better.

Please share your ECNL "inside" source with all of us.

You. You said that they applied twice before. And got rejected. Well, Utah was there. Apparently Boise is more attractive than THUSC. Now Portland is well behind pretty much every other city. And as is pretty much clear to everyone, two clubs here is bad. It would have been much better to have one. Now we are three or four years later than we could have been and we have two diluted teams.

The simple fact is that many people know what happened. Just ask someone from THUSC if you want to know. They will be happy to tell you. THUSC and Idaho could be travel partners. However THUSC was not a valid travel partner for Utah. So they went with Idaho and Utah.

            Simple Question

Why didn't THUSC get in this time around? It was a nice gesture by Crossfire to let THUSC hitch their road show to them. When will Crossfire cut bait?

So thusc failed twice before because of lack of a travel partner. Yeah, that's it. Lack of a travel partner. That's the story and they're sticking with it. Hope everyone at thusc wrote crossfire a thankyou note.

Newbie here. Why do teams need a travel partner? What does that mean?

Because there is a lot of travel in ECNL, teams don't want to fly to play just one game. Typically 2 "partners" will travel to another city to play games with the another 2 "partners", all in one location.

I'm not sure upon what basis they would get their Fall Surf invite without a track record.

I 100% agree that they need to ad one or two higher quality tourneys which would add $1,100 for Surf and or $900 for Carlsbad or Mustang for a $5,500 budget. I would point out that not every player has to go to every tourney so the budget conscious could still stay under $4,500.
I haven't seen anything that indicates that they plan on having separate 17 and 18 teams. I don't think they even plan on having a U18 team. They will have a U16/17 team in 2014/2015, and add a U14/15 team the following year.
Fall Surf is discretionary - far moreso than summer.
I agree and would not expect that every player will want to, or need to do Vegas, Boise, Tacoma, Colorado, and then Carlsbad/Mustang/Nomads or another CA tourney on top of it. However, if they do, they will be getting plenty of great competition. For most of the girls, those tourneys (even without CA) also will have coaches from any schools in which they are interested.
Also, for better or worse (and I can see both sides), when these teams play at these tourneys they will typically get 4 games. At the ECNL showcases, they play three. When they travel for their league games, they will play two.
As an aside, I have been team manager for teams that have done summer and Thanksgiving Surf, Nomads (same weekend as Carlsbad), Mustang, Vegas, and many others, and our costs were never $900/player. We were pretty budget conscious (e.g., 4 girls/room, BBQ's combined with buffets, carpool in some instances) and I don't know how the Timbers Academy will do it.

Where have the Timbers announced that they will add a U14/15 team next year? The only press release so far stated "The two-year goal will be to add a second Academy age group next year for players at the U14/15 age groups." A "goal" does not equal "done deal"...

That's what you said about the u16/17 team a couple months ago, and looky today. What's your point?

Are there local ECNL teams? Where are the rosters posted? I hear there are some numbers listed but no names and no list of who's on the team. Come on ECNL teams, are you for real or not? It's been two weeks since the last tryout. Must have been a hoax.
