This "concern" seems the most reasonable for a parent who has the money not to do the ECNL you hang your hat on to justify hiding out in the Academy. As an Academy player your DD will win nearly every game but to play about half as much as she would doing the ECNL. How much progress is she going to make playing part time play against the JV? You need to talk to the better development coaches about what the benefits are of getting beat by better teams and playing better players.

Your DD is not a car with a fixed skill set but an organism that has the power of growth. That growth is what the colleges are looking for and that growth is what is going to increase the value of her offer and increase the odds that she completes her soccer scholarship compared to nearly half of the local girls who dropped out of the game in college.

I don't expect you to change your mind but your concerns are misplaced and your DD is going to miss out on an incredible opportunity!

The comparison between 1st year ECNL to GM products at certain times is a false analogy to an opportunity for our DD's to GROW their soccer skills and IQ. A car comes with a fixed set of options and does not get "better" with use! This and other posters are saying the reason they are not going to spend money the have is because they do not see value in losing games possibly by a lot though there is little reason to think that for the CU teams.

The fallacy of that thinking is that they see no value in playing against better players/teams. The fallacy in that thinking is that they think there IS value in playing half as much while winning all your games by a lot against weak competition.

With a few exceptions, I don't disagree. However, and I keep stating this, it is very important that your ECNL team be competitive and that the club be well run. I know the kool aid drinkers feel that those boxes are checked and worst case, "we don't know how good the teams are so let's wait". However, I don't think the clubs are well run, and with respect to CU, I really think that the "leadership" is sorely lacking. Also, I know the age group well and the base teams well and how they have performed. Sorry, I don't believe it will be very well in ECNL. Sorry if it's naive of me to not want to spend all that money on a product that I don't think will be very good, but that's me. I think the two teams at our age group will be very uncompetitive and it won't do the girls on those teams any good being in ECNL. So we are not doing it. More power to those that are. It's your money. New cars are always advertising how great they are and how improved they are. However, I don't buy based upon Ads. I feel like soccer here in Oregon is like GM was 10 years go. They kept saying their products were better, but they weren't. Eventually, with lots of dedication and hard work, they improved. Today, I would be willing to look at a GM product. In 2004, no way. In three years, Oregon ECNL might be worth looking at. Today, in my opinion, it isn't.
