Let's assume that the WST-TS girls do decide to tryout for the Academy team where is the other half of that team going to go when they are not chosen? On a skills basis are they not the best and politically there is no way for the Timbers to take that team intact.

The Academy is truly an example of you get what you pay for. FWRL will provide 4-5 meaningful games, the Colorado showcase will provide 2-3 others and Vegas will provide 3- 4 more. Assuming they place high enough to get into Regionals you will get 3-4 more So you have a total of 12 -15 games where the team will be faced with competition.
Even if your DD makes the 24 person roster with such a limited schedule of meaningful games how many minutes is she going to see in the handful of meaningful games?

The Timbers can do whatever they want to do because they are the Timbers.
The reality is that they will probably take the team intact. They need to do something for the better girl teams in the OYSA so they have some competition even if it is as thin as what they will find in the Thorns academy.

Is she ODP?
If your DD is not already in the ODP system her odds of making the team are what given that the same organization is going to be running the program?

I expect there to be a huge turnout for the Academy program. The quality will be what you see in ODP. The question is what are the other 36 girls going to do when they are not chosen?

Economy Class
An honest evaluation of the costs indicate that the Timbers are sticking their neck out for about $1,000 per player for travel. If $3,600 is all that is in the family budget take the opportunity and don't look back.
At the same time stop bashing ECNL for offering a more expensive option to access more games against better competition.
Neither option will magically make a player better or miraculously get her a scholarship offer. That will come from her natural born talent AND the work she puts into either program.

Two age groups

Attempt to save the girls side
Memo to all TA parents of girls players:
The Academy is the shinny ball that the Timbers are using to distract you from the abysmal quality of the girl competition remaining in the OYSA in hopes of keeping you in the fold. The lure of making the Academy teams is what this is all about not providing meaningful development or competition.
You may not be able to afford the ECNL but even the remaining OPL teams are better than what will be left of the OYSA after they gut 4 age groups with the Academy teams!

To do that they give up a beloved coach and get what? The loose the ability to get into Surf so tell me where the positives are for that team?
If I was a top girl at their age I would be trying to make THAT roster!
