Which equates to 2 for the ECNL teams using the same math. That GD is going to be awful. It will be sad when you realize Boise looks at Portland as two automatice wins.

Yes there were 30 plus for both age groups at TWO clubs. Wha wha wha that can't be because ECNL sucks and is only for rich kids.
30 plus? What were you smoking? Keep telling the lies. The reality was that it was far less.

You are going to be sorely disappointed.

ECNL teams, have hope, there are 60+ Girls who will be back in the pool for you to try to convince to come over after the academy takes the best ones. You can hope to get eight or nine to come over to get your numbers up to 20-21 on your teams.

Doubtful, but you can hope. Whomever wins the clash of Portland will at least have a tally in the wins column.

Based upon some of the comments on this board, it appears that the numbers are indeed going to be big at the tryouts. Where are the ECNL lovers now? I'm sure that out of 85+ players there will be 15-20 very good ones at least. Hope there are a few friendlies between the academy and the ECNL teams.

Big numbers vs the right numbers. It's not rocket science champ.

The bigger TA clubs are sending all their rec players too. Oops, those might actually be their "premier" players...

I saw 25 plus at both the 16 & 17 CU team try outs. I "heard" that FCP had similar numbers.

Da point is having 117 try out for two age groups for one 25 person roster for lower cost soccer does not say anything about the soccer that will be played or the coaching that will be coached.

It only means that there are a lot of parents who don't have big bucks to spend on their DD's for just soccer.

What does the number of players have to do with the relative merits of the ECNL vs. the Academy? The ONLY thing this tells a sentient being is that more people don't have the money it takes to participate in ECNL.

What it "should" tell every other club in the area is that there is a HUGE demand for putting together quality traveling teams at these age groups for an economical fee.

Must not be getting the right players over there at ECNL eh sparky. Lots of THUSC, OC and FC girls amongst the numbers at the academy. The team is going to have to cut some good players, so your team might be able to pick up some of the left overs. Oh, and don't strain too hard trying to look through the fence at the tryouts.

And the point is that there are a lot of girls who want to play with the WST team that is going to be much of the foundation of this team as they have seen the play of this team and their accomplishments. The poiint is this team will be much better than either of the ECNL teams, who are scrambling to get to 16 players to accept offers.

So now the number is 25. I thought it was over 30 before. And that's a far cry from 85 plus. As to the quality, I think it's speaks volumes as the core of this team is very good and you add in some additional good players from various clubs. That means two things, one this team will be stronger and two those teams that don't have those players are weaker. These people are valuing the cost, yes, but they are also valuing the quality of the team.

Wrong. Many teams around here travel on this type of budget. Take a look at the PDX teams that go to Las Vegas. There are a ton of them. Many of those same teams went to Tacoma as well. Those teams don't put together tryouts of 85. Is cost helping in the turnout? Yes. But there are many other reasons for this high of a turnout.

Most of the people signed up have never heard of the WST team... If any of those "85" girls are any good, the WST girls won't even make the team...

Let's see: 25 girls at tryouts for FCP U16, 25 for FCP U17, 25 at CU U17, 25 at CU U16. Seems that adds up to approximately 100. And I know that FCP had more than that at their tryouts. So the number signed up for the Academy tryouts is nothing special.
