In truth they can have 30 names on a team roster. How they manage that is up to each club.

For 14-17 they get two discovery players while the 18's can have four gun slingers from any state in the union.

The haters have no clue how this works so forgive the their ignorance.

Gun slingers. Did you really say that? You really take soccer too serious.

Will be interesting to see how big the rosters are for Portland.

Because you don't understand what the ECNL is or the opportunity it offers the top players you simply don't have any idea how it works.

Yes "gun slingers" from out of the area will be calling our local clubs to see if they have any openings for the showcase tournaments. These players typically will be the best players from areas not served by ECNL or even players in areas served but the local teams have used their DC slots.

Just like our local girls who were at the top of their age groups went North there will others looking to play with these teams. I know the haters will find this hard to believe but that is because they are blinded by their hate and ignorance of what the ECNL is and does for players.

In the words of Donald Rumsfeld "there are known known's, there a known unknow's and there are unkown unknown's." In this case the haters simply don't know what they don't know. What they do know is that it is very expensive and that is the limit of what they actually know.

Oh they will tell you that they "know" our ECNL teams are going to suck and get hammered. Clairvoyant that bunch that bunch of haters. .

I'm glad you put that last part in so we don't have to remind you that $10,000 a year is not buying fillet mignon but instead chuck steak. It's fillet in other parts of the country and it's run by compitent people.

So, your team is going to be ever so happy to have these "gun slingers" come in when you go to a prime showcase tournament and take away playing time from the girls who play on the team full time. Boy, that sounds like a winning formula. Ok girls, you have made the team, you play during the league games, but when it comes to the showcase tournaments, you will sit the bench for half the game so this "gun slinger", who none of you know and none of you have ever played with, can play half the game. Thanks for taking one for the "gun slingers".

You retards have no idea what you're talking about. You make this **** up to stir up dissent towards the ECNL.

Retards? I guess you aren't up on using slurs. You represent the ECNL crowd well.

Don't think for a second that the Thorns Academy won't do the same thing. In their case, they don't even have rules to limit how much they do it...

The difference is that the Thorns academy is not playing in anything competitive. They are playing in college showcases. Win or lose, these don't matter that much. FWRL is competitive, but the competition is just okay. There is no need to bring in outside players.

I know that hate keeps your brain from attain full function so I'll try to splain this so you can process what ever shred that gets through.

ECNL is a DEVELOPMENT league. Yes league wins and losses mean something but the mission is to DEVELOP players which is why they have playing time goals with nearly half of the games in any one season coming at showcases where playing time is doled out relatively equitably based upon position availability. I don't expect you to know this because you have not been on the sidelines but I have so I can relate what I saw many of the teams do over the course of a season.

For the past two years girls from the Metro area have been going North to play on teams of two of the better ECNL clubs in the country. Those players have EARNED their playing time with several earning starting roles. The other players on these ECNL teams do not feel entitled to their minutes and actually welcome the competition. They are on these teams to get better and play against the best not be handed undeserved time or rest on their reputation/laurels.

Similarly our local teams will be welcoming better players from out of the area with whom they will practice and play and our girls will learn things and be inspired to up their game or ride the pine.

This is the SAME process our DD's will face in college. 90% will be paying to attend and have to EARN their time on the pitch. Better get used to playing big girl soccer now than racking up easy wins against lesser competition and developing an inflated opinion of your relative skills and end up dropping out of college soccer when it ends up not being as easy as you thought (see many local players after two years)

Now you are just making things up to try to diffuse the point I just made. But hey, it's good to know that you need some "gun slingers" for select tournaments, I'll be sure to have my Academy dd contact your ECNL coach to come over and take away playing time. And trust me, she will.

Great. Prepare your daughter for the bench when academy players come over to play in showcases. And colleges bring in guest players? Wow, who knew.

So you admit she is hiding out in the Bush league then?

Wait I thought ECNL was a waste of money and the teams would suck and the college coaches would stay away. Now you are telling me you are willing to write a prorated check to be on one of those teams to be seen by coaches....priceless

Yes they are called the next Class. Your DD better learn how to play against the best because every year she will have to earn that scholarship because it's not a four year deal but a ONE year annually renewable contract.
