A poster points out in a rather delicate manner than FC PDX is not telling the truth and you get pissed. Why? What's your ax to grind? Or just maybe you're an internet *rick that needs to STFU.

If FC PDX is not telling the truth than you should point that out to US Soccer.

I am not pissed off or have an ax to grind.

Why are you telling me to STFU because I told them they should contact April.

If someone has any questions they should just go to the source rather than playing passive detective.

Please contact US Soccer and let us all know what you find out.

First off, I admit I am an FC parent so let me just put that out there. Let me ask you this, why should I care if my daughter did not get nominated or invited through normal channels. If LC or GS can get my daughter a look, how can you honestly say that is a bad thing for my daughter? In life, we all network and want to leverage our contacts. I am lucky enough to also have a friend who is the head coach at an East coast school. I am glad to know him. I know that when the time is right he will take a good look at my daughter. He may take her or he may not. But I know that he will consider her, if only because of our friendship.

Sorry Dad! No need to get all sensitive. We aren't saying your daughter isn't good enough to attend national camp. We are just pointing out facts. Bottom line: FC has connections and this is how the two girls were invited. No matter how good you are, Oregon kids are really at a disadvantage when it comes to National camps/teams. Have a good day!

Sounds like you have her future mapped out. Congratulations! Would you feel the same way if you weren't an FC parent? Your response works best when you don't look in a mirror. You probably also think Qatar is a wonderful location for the World Cup.

I know the kind of world we live in but objectivity and ethics should at least be aimed for. It's also nice when hard work gets rewarded.

It is an advantage if you are in Oregon and play for FC.

              Those are the facts.

Well, it may be small consolation, but those players who make it to National Camps and even U.S. Training Centers who don't belong and are there simply through connections are almost always found out fast and never invited back.

                  You are pretty naive.

Don't forget that Thorns Academy starts in July.

You're right. I'm pretty naive to expect professional ethics from FC Portland when they have staff working with their club, US Soccer and UP.

Daughter already playing ECNL. No need for Thorns Academy.

Thorns Academy will be much better than playing ECNL with Washington Premier.

Things that don't exist are always better then things that do exist. That's what is so cool about them. You can make them superior by stating facts that aren't real.

It is great 2 Oregon players got invited regardless of Club! Anyone know how well it went for them?

The part that is odd to me is that, if they only cared about the girls having the experience, they could have totally just let them go and said nothing about it. No one would have known the difference.

Instead they plaster on their home page a press release dated June 2nd about it to get the club some mileage out of it. Bragging about how they got called up as part of the 48 players by the US Soccer head coach. Their club develops such strong talent. Instead we learn there were 50 players who attended. The US Soccer press release even came out on May 28th before their press release. Didn't they think that might draw some questions?

They were the only two Oregon players there, so I'm not sure how anyone would know.

FC PDX has one connection, GS at UP. Very good local connection. Beyond that, not zero, but negative. FC PDX likes their parents to believe they have connections, they simply don't any more than any other youth soccer coach. TA, for all his detractors, at least has some tenuous connections. Most have none. The other major in state women's soccer programs OSU and UO, have 1 player from FC PDX and 6 from THUSC, between them last Fall. Great connections to programs that have better funding for scholarships, coaches and facilities.

I'm glad that the two FC PDX girls get an opportunity to attend. Local girls wherever the camps are held get that chance. I wish they would be on the National roster as Oregon often gets overlooked in general.
