    Timbers academy

The season is wrapping up. For those parents with boys who were part of the Academy 2013-3014 season: please share advice/suggestions/feedback to those boys trying out in July. Thanks in advance!

        Same Ole, Same Ole

Mike Smith was a one and done guy...with little to no coaching experience of HS aged boys.

        Next up AG!

Seriously this is how they treat Oregon's Best? Give them a coaches who have no experience?

The players are asked to have ability and the talent...why aren't the coaches?

AG is great! Can't wait for him to take over the squad.

Have you seen the U16 team? Not many have the ability and the talent--sorry--just saying!

that's crap. the u-16 boys have a number of excellent players. problem is they are not allowed to actually play and be creative; it's all about shape and defending. unfortunately due to this a number of players left, this does leave them a bit depleted but still some quality. this is the same group that beat everyone but south cal in regional camp a few years back and send a good group to the hold over camp.

17/18s seems to be making a run (whipped Crossfire 6-1) and looks like they can make playoffs.

              15/16s results not so great.

Holdover camp? So what? How many on the team made the actual region 4 team? As I recall, two years ago many Oregon boys made the holdover camp roster because South Cal wasn't at regional camp.

Players left because they weren't getting playing time NOT because they weren't allowed "to be creative."

                    The u16 team isn't Oregon's best.

That is just a rude thing to say. If it's not oregon's best it's damn close, within a couple players. It's basically free, and amazing opportunity. The best kids want that. If your kid left because of playing time or didn't tryout then he's really not oregon's best. And that's reality. So yes, it's actually oregon's best. And no, I do not have a player on the team, I just think you sound ridiculous and sour grapes.

Isn't U16 middle of the pack? If so, pretty good for Academy level competition? Seems respectable to me.

Why is that a rude thing to say? And I never said it wasn't an amazing opportunity. Ask anyone with a u16 son and you will get the same response. There are even coaches who will concur with me.

You don't know what you're talking about. There are a handful of amazing players who left that have gone on to secure d1 scholarships through their club teams.

Well I know the age group well and I can only think of 1 or 2 players not on the team that MAYBE could make the bench. Give it a rest. If your kid didn't make it don't have sour grapes. Congratulate and move on. It sounds very sad and desperate otherwise.

This is not the girls side where talent is diluted and those without money don't get the opportunity. In general, the best best do academy. Very few exceptions.
