    1. Didn't need ecnl to get there did they? Evidently ecnl is worthless right?

    2. How many more were lured into the club one empty words of recruiting?

If that's the coach's business at that school, it doesn't sound like a very good place to go and play soccer...

So you think a "high percentage" of FC players is an average of one per year out of 18 players

There are 5 FC players on the current Roster at UOP and more coming in next year. There are very few clubs that have that kind of representation from a single club at any D1 college. (Maybe De Anza)

          PLease counter with facts.
It is also no coincidence that with the increase in FC players the Pilots results have suffered.

Yes we have good players but FC has not produced the quality of players that lead the Pilots to Glory in the last decade.

If ya don't believe me look at the rosters of the Pilots in their championship runs and you will not see more than 3 player from FC and only one or two as a featured player in any one year.

This a really dumb post. Are you arguing for or against FC as a good source for players at Div 1 UP? If 2-5 players from FC are on the UP roster at any given time and have up to 1 or 2 featured players that is phenomenal representation at the D1 level... Especially at one school. Thanks for emphasizing the point.

Yes that is a nice achievement but you are missing the point. If Stanford, Norte Dame or North Carolina focused their recruiting on a single school they would not be perennially competitive either.

Da POINT is that the Pilots are no longer the power they used to be because they are NOT getting top players from around the country or OUT of the country like they did in the glory years. So great go to FC and maybe two out of 18 get to U of P but other local clubs are sending similar number of players to Gonzaga and other WAC schools which is equally impressive.

GS is a used car salesman and plugs UP to all the players he recruits.

Oh and your phenomenal representation is a joke considering the best player last year came from Vancouver and FCP are riding benches.

Yeah, and they did it without ECNL. What does that tell you.

                  That ECNL is not needed?

Smith as he came back into more activity at FC PDX some years ago, he promised the Board to take at least one player each year to UP. At least that's what the girl's head girl's coach told us parents and daughters. He hasn't taken the best Portland area players, but the best FC PDX had to offer. Therein lies the problem, less success at UP directly coincides with more FC PDX players. Out of state freshman players have taken away starting spots from FC PDX upper class players as they have arrived. Look at the rosters and playing time over the last several years. Smith coached one FC PDX older girls team some years ago, Purple, and did a thoroughly horrible job. Smith has had excellent success at UP, but it's not due to FC PDX players.

Rochelle Hearns at THUSC is one of those younger coaches that you should hope your daughter has the chance to play for! TA gets all the credit at THUSC but in my early experience at the club she deserves much of the credit. The primary challenge with her and most of the best coaches is she gets spread thin and pulled in many directions. Maybe the ECNL funds will allow her to consolidate her efforts?!

It's been a long time since GS took the best local

Not since he took Jessica T has GS recruited the best local player.

Other than goalies I would say he hasn't even recruited one of the top 5 local players since JT!

Why didn't they make her one of the ECNL coaches? I agree she has a reputation as a good coach so I don't understand why they didn't put her in charger of one of the ENCL age groups. U17 would have made the most sense. I understand they gave THUSC a couple of teams and CO a couple of teams. If they wanted to do what's best for the club they would have let Tom choose one, either U16 or U14, and then let Rochelle have U17. That would have done so much more good than letting Tom and his ego have two teams.

Last year they were 8-1 in conference and 17-3-1 overall and ranked 11th. Gonzaga was 3-6. Don't let your anti-FC/UP blinders get the best of you.

Didn't UP beat UNC last year?

I guess you think the regular season is what makes a good program?

BTW how much of a contribution have the FC players made in the last 4 years?
