Odd, the scuttlebutt on here is it was basically the 'silver' team and a couple of LO players were the only ones that tried out. Doesn't sound like there was a 'draw'.

Don't really care about the "scuttlebutt" here. I look forward to my daughters year of development from great coaches I have experienced firsthand.

As someone who has had daughters coached by both Tom and Rochelle over the years, the combination of them was a huge draw for us to tryout for the U14 ECNL team at Crossfire United. The teams skill development will make a lot of progress this year.

By the way...Rochelle was voted Timbers ODP girls coach of the year in 2013.

Didn't seen like much of a draw from what I hear. That u14 turnout was a huge disappointment and they are in dire need of good players or players for that matter.

There's at least a dozen other threads you can post on to rant about the ECNL, this thread was specific to identifying/discussing coaches not caliber of players or teams. If you have something to add about the coaches by all means feel free to add something constructive. Otherwise find one of the other dozen or so ECNL threads.

I think she would have been a better choice for the U17 team. Kibwe is a good coach but I think Rochelle would get more out of girls. I know we would be more interested if it were her.

I think that most are hoping that Rochelle continues to be involved with the u17 group, along side Kibwe and Mel.

Her recognition is not a "sales pitch" but a fact. And if it was a "sales pitch", isn't it kind of late since the team has already formed? It was simply a link to an article about Rochelle.

Where did the 96's go

Tell us oh wise one. Frankly, in the past six years other than Verloo how many local players have really been top players? I'm sure your DD was one, but the rest of us missed it.

The last consolidated ODP team was the 96's who actually BEAT So Cal teams. Other than their goalie none of their best are headed to the Bluff.

My DD is not the question. The question is how can a program survive when they are not even taking/getting the best our state has to offer? Answer they can't.

I guess when you come late to a discussion you might not "get' what is going on. Da POINT is that U of P is taking girls from FC rather than the best the state has to offer.

So the u17s are the only team not getting an "A" license coach? Nothing against Kibwe, and not that a license means everything, but why wouldn't they leave this team to Rochelle who has an A license and is very familiar with the age group? It seems as if she is the most in demand for this group.

seriously though, one girl from FC and one from THUSC signed this year and you have a problem with that? Where else is a college coach going to find all this stellar instate talent that GS, Kat or Linus are missing. I include all of the coaches because UofO and OSU have considerable numbers of 'in state' talent and over comparable time periods have done worse then UofP with all those FCP girls ruining the program or whatever you are eluding to. You think that GS is missing other in-state girls, because he HAS to take one FCP girl a year. Where is this talent you speak of? Eastside, BSC, PCU, Canby H.S.? Almost all of the talent get consolidated in H.S. to Ossa/Crossfire/ECNL or whatever they call themselves now, F.C. Portland and THUSC. So it's not surprising he picked two from one of those clubs and no wonder those clubs got ECNL. He is not recruiting a 'team', so even if your DD won the surf cup, he is only looking at individuals, same if they got smoked in the same tourney, a good player will stand out. And he probably has pretty detailed notes on the FCP players from the other coaches. That would be a safer bet then taking little Suzie from ABC club or 'no where High School' that got the spirit award. Now maybe he was only looking to fill certain positions or they had to have decent grades due to limited scholarship money... or... or.... But to think GS, Kat or Linus or any college coach is going to pass on talent is ludicrous. Either you should get a job as a college soccer coach or you are thinking a little too highly of your DD and her squad and maybe are thinking a little to down on the girls he has chosen locally.

You need to keep up. We have been making fun of the crowd who is bragging about all the FC girls over at the Bluff and the sales pitch that you get during FC tryouts.

When we point out that it is 1or 2 a year out of 18 they say that those 2 must be the best in state...yah riiiiighttt! In my experience GS does not recruit very much/hard in state outside FC seemingly expecting the locals to WANT to go to his program.


Additionally, the argument was made that the success of the Pilot program has an inverse relationship to the number of FC players.
