On logistics alone it makes sense if you live in the Beaverton area as ECNL teams will be training 4 or more days per week. The drive from Beaverton into LO is a bear at those times of the day.

On ECNL website, find a NW club from last season and look at their schedule. That'll give you an idea for any age group you need. ECNL won't answer why 2 clubs, but surely a travel partner was necessary. How much financial aid? Unlikely. You are paying for travel, if on travel roster.

I don't understand what the benefit is of a travel partner club?

Makes it better for the clubs that are travelling. They can come to Portland, or Seattle, or Boise, and play at least 2 different teams instead of just 1. Cuts your travel costs by half at least depending on how the other clubs in the division want to schedule the games.

Not sure about that - THUSC lost a few last year to FC in the 99's and it will happen again this year. Those two teams have a lot of girls that are friends and that will be a draw.

Current 00's that are playing on the '99 team will be coming back to '00 ECNL team. They wouldn't have any place to play in the fall anyways if they didn't drop back. Those girls plus 4 or 5 that are new to the club and the team will compete just fine in the Pacific division, certainly more so than the Thorns Academy '99 team.

FC's '99 ECNL team will be strong, especially with the addition of 2 or 3 of the girls that are currently playing as discovery players at WPFC and Xfire WA. Pretty sure there is 1 girl from Camas and 1 from Eugene at WPFC, and 1 from Vancouver at Xfire WA.

FC will be weaker on all teams. Like it or not they will not be able to take players from thusc anymore and they will most likely cost much more.

I agree with this poster. The kids playing up north at any age are probably not going to leave their discovery positions. I think people take there kids to Washington for a variety of reasons and not JUST to play ECNL. Many of them do it for the coaching.

Well in order for that to happen they better come up with a top class, highly subsidized program. The big question mark seems to be how it will all be structured? The obvious question is who will they be playing against?

We will have to wait and see what happens. The ECNL deal for Portland will now force the Timbers hand in terms of showing how much female soccer actually means to them. Maybe we finally see the soccer families benefit from this???
