I doubt very much they ll be able to do it on their own. Unless they can secure sponsorships. The program is very difficult to afford at first and to maintain is even harder. They will have to put the cost on their families which would be very high. They were doing a good job with their college placement before. May have to rethink an alignment. If TA clubs aren't allowed to do this, the pickings would be left to bridlemile or pcu. It would give the small clubs who are already doing a good job a way to keep older players and raise the numbers at the lower ages. They have good coaches at both already. Players on the eastside and Vancouver train at pcu while Westside kids train at FC Portland. Thorns academy will hurt both groups and both teams will struggle to start with but the migration of younger players or new players will be boosted. Aligning with an eastside club will complete directly with timbers alliance clubs on either side of the I5.

It will be an exciting day for those current U13 players who are selected for the respective 2 new U14 ECNL teams at FC & Crossfire-United.

What happens to those players who aren't chosen? Will they stick around or look elsewhere?

Well

Well in Seattle the reserve teams are the A team and play RCL. But they regularly attend the ECNL trainings as the reserve teams practice 2 days a week the ECNL teams 4. They are called up when there are shortage of players at events and games and also used at events like NWCL, surf, far west regionals, etc things like that as the ECNL players are really only playing in the stuff that counts like national events, division and league games.
