Next step in moving to birth year age groups

USSDA, ODP, National teams are already by birth year. Now Crossfire is going to birth year age groups for advanced boys teams. If Crossfire is doing this it will soon be standard for Washington. Can Oregon be far behind?

This only makes sense to align with every other country in the world, and with our own DAs and National team programs.

My kid was born in the first four months of the year so I think its a great idea.

I do like that my kids plays mostly with kids that are the same age level in school.

But otherwise it makes no sense. When we've played out of state teams you can see the difference.

My daughter was born right before the cut off so she would drop to a lower age bracket, not that I think that would be a good idea.

One system is best. A bunch of kids get the short end of the stick if they have to play with the yonger age group in club but compete with the older at ODP/National camps, etc. Two separate age group criteria is detrimental. Only rec soccer should stay by school year. If elite paths are all going by calendar year, then so should club! (My dd
is Nov. so I have seen the positives & negatives. I'm all for one system - whatever it is!

Long overdue and I have multiple kids with one each on either end of the spectrum.

I agree. Following the school year has always been a mistake. Birth year makes far more sense and a step in the right direction.

                    Interesting topic.

Not quite sure what I think about it yet, need more time to process the concept. But I do know my daughter would be sad if it happens as most of her soccer team are a different year than she is.

                      Not so good

It would be a tough transition to make for an entire system - especially for the u15 teams where 3/4 of the kids will be entering high school and the remaining 1/4 would be left on the sidelines for the Fall season. This is why kid doesn't play up any more.

                        Why boys side only?
