Not really, that's just your interpretation. We are at a TA club and haven't heard a peep from the Timbers or our club discouraging us from doing ECNL. You just have some individuals on here that think it's a waste of money for most players and others that think it's money well spent. The same discussion has gone on over the years about ODP.

Keep saying that. It is obvious where this is coming from. Some TA clubs may not attack the ECNL to their membership, the Timbers and TA have been on this forum and at some TA clubs like WST.

A couple people making posts on an anonymous forum does not equal a constant attack. You need to get a grip.

It's rather simple. The Timbers organization knows the negativity being published here and on the sidelines of their State cup are coming from their coaches and being echoed by their parents.


If they had any class they would put out a memo to the TA directing that to end and they would put out a public statement congratulating the OPL on expanding the opportunities for girls in the region. But no, they are viewing the arrival of ECNL as a threat to their control of youth soccer and rather than being MATURE they are allowing people they could control and influence to engage in childish and deceitful attacks on who they see as a rival. And for that I hold GW and MP directly responsible.

dude....more than likely it's one maybe two people constantly posting.....you really need to wake up.

the same goes for ODP or when the Timber Alliance formed....people complained...and it was probably only one or two people.

Thank you again for posting this - I have bumped into the original article a couple of times, but reading this again helped me think through how to verbalize some things with child soccer-player (complicated because I happen to be their coach) . . . find myself saying this (or a variation on it) simple expression quite a bit lately.

Still want my children to work hard at a sport and be a good teammate and feel the need to communicate those values . . . however this article does hit on a central feeling (really just love watching them play) through the whole experience.

What's stupid is the thought by OPL supporters that players at TA clubs are putting down ECNL. You people do realize all of us are free to move clubs don't you? Our only allegiance is to our kid. Maybe OPL parents feel differently and will lap up anything thrown at them by their member clubs, but as for me, we are going to the best option there is for our kid. Regardless of affiliation.

Ahhhh, I was getting all teary-eyed about this article and how it helped me connect with my kid . . . folks have to bring it back to sending insults back and forth about OYSA/OPL and ECNL/Thorns Academy.

Maybe OPL parents feel differently and will lap up anything thrown at them by their member clubs, but as for me, we are going to the best option there is for our kid. Regardless of affiliation.

So the way they attempt to recruit is to attack the whole TA, claiming they have been egregiously wronged, and everyone needs to come running to them...

Sell you? You have already made the assumption that "the way they attempt to recruit is to attack the whole TA". I don't see that. Most the threads on here just outright lies about ENCL. Comments about the Thorns academy are legit if it is being sold, but there is no product.

You don't want to be sold. Nobody should be sold via TS. But the options seem pretty clear and it would appear you have already made your choice. So sit back and enjoy it.
