2014-2015 "The future for G99 Soccer in Oregon"

The spring league is winding down and state cup is quickly approaching. Players and parents are starting their evaluations and soul searching on what to do next year. Especially important for this age group as they enter the increasingly critical GU15 and GU16 years.
Some will decide they've had enough of the intensity and either step back or quit all together and pursue other interests. But for those that have their hopes and dreams set in playing college ball or higher this is critical decision time.
It is my opinion that the G99 age group is hugely talented and very robust in numbers. The issue I see is that age old problem of talent that aspires to play at the "next" level is spread all over. To many clubs and teams. There does not seem to be a "stand out" team, a gold standard, that team that clearly all top players want to play for. We have a lot of good teams but none that seem to be head and shoulders above the rest.

I contend that if Portland gets one or two ECNL clubs then "game over". This will be the catalyst that will bring the areas top G99 players together. Surely there will be players/parents that can't afford the $$ or the time/travel commitment and these players will continue on in the OPL / OYSA quagmire. But for those top level female players that can afford the time and expense the ECNL may just be what finally blows a hole in the status quo, finally bringing together the top players.

However, if the Portland area does not get an ECNL club what happens? What team(s) emerge as the go to place? Or is it more of the same mediocrity? Are players/parents willing to make the decision to move to another club/team? Trade one good team for another? Who steps up and puts together the G99 Super Team? That one "go to" team?

Hugely talented is a bit of a stretch. The 98 class is just as good if not better. The 00 class is weak, but the 01 class is probably stronger.

It will be great if there happens to be ECNL in Portland. Life will be just fine with no ECNL as well.

I find nothing new whatsoever in your post. This topic and discussion has gone on for months and months. What exactly is new in your post?

            I'm for

I am for a collective effort to build one team. Whatever that may look like. Timbers/Thorns or ECNL.
I question the concept that PDX/Oregon has the firpower for two national level quality teams. ie- Thorns and ECNL effort or 2 ECNL clubs. In my oppinion we could build one team and win on a National level with the likes of SoCal. Doubt the powers that be would want to go with a 1 team concept as it promotes possible revenue streams they may not be able to control.
It would be prefered for the Talent in this state to have Timber/Thorns run program as they have the ability to get it done. But so far they havent shown the inclination to take the next step on the girls side.

Give me a break. The other 2 teams in the semi-finals were FC Nova and Seattle United.

It happens that Eastside and FCSC were the only 2 teams on the Oregon / SW Washington side with a positive gold differential for the 00.

Thank you. I was perplexed by the "weak" comment as well.

How many guest players did the 00 champion use?

LO and FC Portland are terrible.

                            THUSC is average.

Eastside wins, but I would not classify that as soccer. That style does not work when you play better teams.

FCSC is the top in the league.

There are good players so please don't get your panties in a knot. As a whole, the other age groups are better.
