I didn't know the U14 / Freshman rule. I'm sure others don't either.

"Club Pass Players"
Getting a ringer player into a game isn't that hard to do, especially by clubs that want to win at any cost. In South Carolina, SCYSA does not require refs to inspect player cards at all. I've been to dozens of my two sons' Select/Travel games, league, friendly, tournament and state cup. Never, never in any of those games has a ref even glanced at the player cards. It's usually a parent volunteering as "Field Marshall". Besides, a coach doesn't really have to sneak a ringer in. Most state soccer association rules allow for the filing of a "Game Day Roster" 24 hours prior to a final cup match. This "roster" can include just about anyone the coach wants, especially "club pass players" who may be the right age, but from a much higher-skilled team within the club; for instance, a U14 Elite player sneaking into a U14 Basic Skills division tournament. That's the biggest problem that I've seen; same-age players sneaking into lower division games to secure a cup title. With only 24 hour before a cup game, there is little time for anyone to adequately check on whom is being added. It sounds petty, but in a world where coaches - and clubs - live or die by the number of their wins, the temptation to "pack" a team roster is ever-present, and it does happen. We have one club in our state which is known for adding players regularly, depending on the importance of the game. Rosters are supposed to be "frozen" by SCYSA rules but that club has never, to my knowledge, been cited or even questioned about what they are doing. If more parents complained about this, the coaches, clubs and associations might do something about the issue of "ringers", but frankly, I doubt it. Every sport has its dark side, and the last thing our coach wants to hear is more complaining from the parents.

You might go back and read the rule book...
Yep. My DD is going to be a Freshman in H.S. next year and currently playing U13 (U14 in the fall) There is no rule against it. But it's an awful lot of playing soccer. Both coaches (H.S. and club) are on board and are willing to 'adjust' things a little to accommodate.
