I disagree. I don't think it was that "upfront". He slanted it to his personal agenda and if you think that's transparent, then more power to you. However, there are plenty of us who disagree. He overstated the ECNL cost (by the way, I have no interest in my daughter doing ECNL). If he felt so much for our pocketbooks, my last year playing for Westside wouldn't have cost is about 4-5k with tournaments and travel etc. It is quite obvious the players that the DOC at Westside cares about and that's a very small pool, but they are just as happy to take my money as the ECNL would be. Hypocritical.

Folks seem to be getting confused about the meaning of candor and transparency. Cony is candid and transparent in this case because he clearly and openly admits he has a bias and explains that bias. He explains what might change his perspective. If you disagree with his statements, no big thing...he is just explaining where he is coming from.

It's the same argument that was trotted out when FC had the DA 5 or 6 years ago. The very first line of attack wass that it would be way too expensive and not worth it. In fairness, the success and later importance of the DA wasn't as clear back then as it is now. Now the DA is sold as the "elite" play there and a top player would be foolish not to do it. Back then it was an FC money grab and too much money. (it was a lot of money - mostly for travel, but it was not an FC money grab).

ENCL has a solid track record and its importance continues to grow for players who want to play at a higher level, just like the DA's has over the past few years. I think that's pretty apparent that if a Portland team joins the ENCL it will draw a lot of the top players and that will hurt the other clubs. It is a real threat to the bottom line of programs like Westside who can't afford to lose the families that can afford ENCL because its those families that make programs like Westside work. That money needs to stay in the club, not go to a competitor.
