But the conversation is about who's going to get an ECNL team if one does come to Oregon, not the relevance of local teams outside the area. I don't think any of the posters here care about their significance outside of the area.
The talk about NWSL creating some kind of academy associated with ECNL and Oregon getting a team partly because we're fortunate enough to have a womens team here makes a lot of sense. You know there's a lot of DOC's that want their teams to benefit from it, but where it lands is up in the air.

Thusc is in that's all that matters. Who gets the second one I don't care. Maybe it will be a combo TA/Thorn club but that would very hard to believe. Probably a better chance of FC or a combo of Crossfire and FC.

They have no track record (Not the Thorns themselves, they have a track record) but they do not have a track record at all running girls soccer. Academy does not equal club. ECNL is not looking for an umbrella of clubs. Again, pick one club and lets debate whether that club deserves an ECNL bid. Please do not say Thorns Academy, they are not "a" club. GET IT, GOT IT, GOOD.
The NWSL connection comes from connecting a couple posts here (yeah, about as reliable as ___) and looking at what MLS is doing with the academy structure on the boys side. It's not strict ECNL as we know it today, but pick the elite club in the area, tie it to the Thorns (not TA) and you're set up with both ECNL and Academy.
BTW, "Chill" still applies.

Pick the elite club in the area and tie it to Nike and you then have an ECNL bid. The Thorns are married to TA/OYSA and are not going to be associated with an ECNL bid because of that, plain and simple.

They don't count for ****. Why this is Oregon and this is TA/THORNS. We have to tell all the rest of the ECNL clubs to screw off, we're doin this Oregonian idea of letting umbrella bush leagues form one team.
