The ECNL people are meeting up with the Oregon clubs later this month. The league is expanding and will be separated by region. There will be two teams in Oregon and they will start in November 2014.
OK first. The ECNL season starts on Labor Day weekend EVERY year. So November start date shows that you are not truly aware unless you mis-spoke. I heard that the ECNL was halting expansion until they could remove poorly performing clubs first. Maybe they changed their minds and will add some teams from Oregon but I have heard differently. I could also be wrong so I guess we will see what happens. Most new additions are finalized by March every year to start in SEPTEMBER. I guess we will all know soon enough since its March :)

OK first. Take a look at the ECNL schedule. There are only a certain number of teams that started on the labor day weekend. You posting this shows me that you are not truly aware unless you mis-spoke. Take a look at Crossfire's schedule. Crossfire's games did not start until December.

You have also heard differently about the expansion. There will be two ECNL clubs in Oregon starting before the end of this year. It is already more or less a done deal.

Personally I think it will be between those 3.
All 3 of the clubs are geographically close

Love for it to happen, but at their travel schedule. Our team travels quite a bit, but I think this travel schedule will exclude some financially challenged families

US Club will NOT allow a Timber team in I can assure you. WST has NEVER won anything outside of OR on the girls side

They would love to have two different Ecnl clubs having practice on the same field!

Not only that, but history shows they haven't developed girls individually. 0% chance

Overall the ENCL doesn't give a crap about our little petty issues we are having. they want quality in their program. they won't hold out quality if its there. I wouldn't be shocked if they change some of their normal practices and you see a Timbers alliance team and probably FC Portland.

Additionally, why would Ecnl be coming to meet with the Portland clubs this month if not starting in 2014?

That is not so much the issue as WST have barely won any thing on the girl's side in Oregon. Most teams in Oregon (both OPL and OYSA) have barely won outside of Oregon. That says something about Oregon soccer. Says even more about WST if they can barely win in Oregon.

                          US Club Soccer runs ID2.

I agree that in terms of Portland soccer those clubs are close. That is just the nature of soccer here it seems.

I think what the original poster may have been getting at is that Ecnl would not choose 2 clubs on the same side of town/off the 26 corridor and that close (even though LO isn't that far away). In WA they have a radius rule for Ecnl I have been told. Meaning once one club gets that status then others in a close proximity cannot. Not sure if anyone can confirm this?

If that is true then that could be a reason Crossfire would be in a better position as they 'service' a different geographical location and membership base. Leaving FC and THUSC to battle it out for the other berth potentially.

Ultimately this is just guess work as we don't know what is going on at the moment.

I hope that a couple of clubs do get Ecnl status and then we can start to get the best coaches and players assembled together. We have too many clubs, not enough good coaches at every club and a diluted talent pool with the exception of an occasional team here and there.

One reason for the lack of development and growth in OR soccer and our inability to compete out of state is because the best players and coaches are too spread out. If we could consolidate the players and worthwhile coaches in less clubs then players would benefit and soccer standards would improve.

It would be also great to see OR attracting some quality coaches from outside the state. Sadly the coaching salaries paid here are very poor in comparison to our neighbors to the north and south.

They do hold out quality and they do want quality. The ECNL is more about a Destination. They want destination clubs. clubs that have structure and coaching in place. The players will then go to the ECNL destinations. There are plenty of clubs that are left out with much better quality then any ecnl club. Tophat is a great example. Destinations already chosen in Atlanta
