Best Players = Most obnoxious parents

I get that this thread was started about a specific player and parent, I don't know anything about that. In general though I agree with those who feel that is not the case. On all the teams my kids have been on, the majority of the time the parents of the best players are the few who are relaxed and easygoing, compared to the neurotic micro managers of the bubble players.

Been exactly my experience as well. There is a reason why those kids are the best. They want it, not their parents.

My child plays in the Premier Division and throughout the years of coaches we have had, all have explicitly demanded silence from the parents on the sidelines except for the positive cheering for the team and even that is expected to be on a quiet and calm level. Any deviation from these demands from the parents results in their child getting benched. I would have to say that some of the most obnoxious comments do come from a handful of Onyx parents but what I find most interesting is the actual team members of Onyx are the quietest and most respectful players we have played against. One Dad in particular from Onyx probably doesn't care that he is embarrassing his daughter beyond belief or at best doesn't realize how stupid he sounds. Some of our parents have created a drinking game based on every time he makes a stupid repetitious comment. Needless to say, we are completely wasted by half time.

I hope you're joking. It's a little alarming that you're drinking at a child's soccer game. If true, I hope you're not getting in the car afterwards to drive your player home.

No, my daughter drives us home. I never drink and drive. At Onyx, we teach responsibility for your actions at a young age. If you see me driving fast on your tail, move out of the way. If you see my daughter on your tail, she had better not rear end you unless you want to deal with me.

It is strange someone can be so obsessed with one U15 girl's team.

In all honesty I think the whole Onyx thing could be toned down on both sides of the discussion...the parents and players are not bad people or some sort of monsters, but they also don't walk on water.

I think both sides incite each other, and justify their behaviour based on the other one, but realistically they both are acting like 3rd graders.
