    Full year periodized league

Why does Oregon have both fall and spring leagues? BC has a similar climate but sets up their leagues to run from February through November with mandated breaks for rest, training, etc.

Are you saying that they don't have money or high school in BC? :)

They may not care as much or they could be more consolidated so that the money issue (ie numbers) is not a problem. I really don't know but I think it would be a hard sale to our greedy clubs. On another note: As late as three years ago the BC ODP team trained all year and was academy styled for girls. That would be pretty cool for the young up and coming female player but it would decimate a couple of teams who have influential docs and they would not like it.

          I like it though.....

Oh and highs school soccer is not as popular everywhere as it seems to be here. For the high level player they would need to give it up and I am okay with that.

A couple of details about BC Soccer. There are only 8 clubs in the BCSPL. If you want to play in that league you must be at one of those 8 clubs. No other clubs are allowed in. Also, if you want to be considered for BC Provincial pool (like ODP in Oregon) or Whitecaps Academy, you have to play at one of the 8 clubs. That is how you force consolidation of talent. The same system could work in Oregon also.

Any idea what the average cost is at those 8 clubs, compared to here?

I like it but some of the clubs wouldn't because they would lose

Around $1900 - $2000 for BCSPL level. Much less (around $500 - $600) for "select" level (similar to OPL Premier division)

Careful what you ask for. OYSA / Timbers are in a position to do just this with their TA. OYSA could easily say that all ODP players must be members of TA clubs and the Timbers could say the same for the boys academy...

I don't think that USYSA allows a monopoly on ODP players. Canada might. Even so, if OYSA and the Timbers (not the Timbers Alliance) come up with an academy system for girls, then you can bet that there will be strong migration at the younger ages!

The migrated talent at ODP can't even beat club teams. Go look at last years Friendship Cup. The funny thing is MOST of the better players on our team and at our club don't even participate in ODP.

Under the current ODP system the player does both ODP and club. This is expensive and time consuming. Under a academy year round ODP program this would not be the case. The expense would be similar to a club and the time would be no different than a traveling high level team.

There are NO teams in Oregon that give the high level player what they need... a challenge. As an example, THUSC teams are very good but who do they play.... Oregon Crossfire over and over and over. If an academy were to come for the girls you can bet that the youngers would flock. This doesn't mean that the established older teams would, but being a parent of a high level player I can assure you that the draw will be there.

Either way, you probably needn't worry about it since there does not appear to be any immediate plan for a girl's academy.

ODP is primarily about identifying talent for the national team pool. The players in Oregon that are at that level are easily identified without the expense of ODP and are already being invited directly to the US Soccer Training Centers.

If the Timbers wanted to do something to help develop (not identify) more of the top players, then they should form a US Youth National League team at all age groups (U14 and up). And they should also encourage and support top club teams to play in the FWRL.

Actually, it is about making money for the Timbers to help offset the cost of their DA program.
