Had some personally directed posts on here over the last 24-hours, so instead of hijacking someone else's thread thought I would respond here to the more personal posts.
Site Moderator. "Hey look its the new site moderator. On all day, every day."
You are right though on here too much (procrastinating on work and interested in the league topic). Having said that, why do you care?
Disclosure Monitor
"No, he's the "disclosure" monitor. If you reply at all with factual reason, he wants to know if you are party to either side of the discussion."
I have participated in a number of soccer forums over the years and this is by far the nastiest (the Oregon Live Youth Soccer forum was right there with it); while informative I think the tone does damage to the soccer culture in this town. I think two of the contributing factors is that folks posts unregistered and that it is poorly monitored. With some decent $s involved in this league split, I also think it is appropriate that folks disclose if they work for the Timbers, one of the leagues, or a club involved. The FTC has recently clarified its position on blogs and such (requiring greater disclosure of financial interest) and many companies have social media policies that address this.
I have not always posted registered on soccer forums, but I do now; think a little transparency outweighs the risk of having a target on your head.
Guilty as charged, but see below.
A Word of Encouragement
"Slow Xavi, don't get discouraged, there are some of us on here who appreciate a balanced even perspective. The issue these OPL partisans are having with logic and reason is their position is neither logical or reasonable…"
Thank you it is nice of you to say. I have been through one of these splits before and lots of anger all around in my experience. Trying to make heads and tails like the other parents on here.
The Pusher
"Re read the thread. You missed what Xavi is pushing. You missed it completely."
I am not sure what the poster thinks I am pushing.
Conspiracy Theory and Silly Site Monitor
"No. My child plays for a TA team, but your weak attempt to act as a site moderator is just silly."
This was (I think) the end of an exchange regarding disclosure. What I am came away with is that my questions regarding ties to clubs was deemed invasive by some parents:
If you are a parent, fair enough and I apologize if you thought my questions on ties were invasive.
If you work the Timbers or one of the leagues or clubs, tough. If you have skin in the game, in my opinion you should be disclosing it if you are posting on this forum. The Timbers starting disclosing on the Soccer City USA site - wish they did that here.
In terms of conspiracy theory - I think folks use the forum at time to attempt to undermine the other side of the debate, much like a political campaign; I think it is naive to think that the only ones posting in this forum are parents.
He Must be Old + plus a couple of posts on different threads calling me a troll w/in 5 minutes of each other
"Xavi must be old. It doesn't know what a web troll is, but quotes the Bard, poorly, in error. I agree, ignore the troll."
Gertrude my read/use of Shakespeare is more flexible than yours, me thinks.
I have been in a number of soccer forums over the years and never been called a troll before - that was my point. An unregistered poster calling a registered poster a troll on a couple of different threads within 5 minutes of each other is pretty rich - let me know what you think I am doing that constitutes trolling and I will adjust.
Laughing at You
"Stop asking and answering your own questions. We are all laughing at you."
Wrong - I don't post unregistered. Your 2nd sentence makes you a small-minded coward.
