    An a more personal side

Got some personally directed love on here over the last 24-hours, so instead of hijacking someone else's thread thought I would respond in one thread (for discussions that were more substantive I left where they were). (part 1 of 2).

    Site Moderator

"Hey look its the new site moderator. On all day, every day."

This post was in response to me posting man beating a dead horse, because on almost a daily basis there appears to be a new post about the sky falling for the OPL and that if your son continues to play in that league he will lose he manhood - I thought they were beating a dead horse. But yes, I am guilty of being here too much.

Having said that, why do you care?

    Disclosure Monitor

"No, he's the "disclosure" monitor. If you reply at all with factual reason, he wants to know if you are party to either side of the discussion."

I have participated in a number of soccer forums over the years and this is by far the nastiest (the Oregon Live Youth Soccer forum was right there with it). I think two of the contributing factors is that folks posts unregistered and that it is poorly monitored. With some decent $s involved in this league split, I also think it is appropriate that folks disclose if they work for the Timbers, one of the leagues, or a club involved. The FTC has recently clarified its position on blogs and such (requiring greater disclosure of financial interest) and many companies have social media policies that address this.

I have not always posted registered on soccer forums, but I do now; think a little transparency outweighs the risk of having a target on your head.

Guilty as charged, but see below.

    A Word of Encouragement

"Slow Xavi, don't get discouraged, there are some of us on here who appreciate a balanced even perspective. The issue these OPL partisans are having with logic and reason is their position is neither logical or reasonable…"

Thank it is nice of you to stay. I have been through one of these splits before and lots of anger all around in my experience. Trying to make heads & tails like the other parents on here.

    The Pusher

"Re read the thread. You missed what Xavi is pushing. You missed it completely."

I am not sure what the poster thinks I am pushing. The thread I was posting to appeared to be one in a series of attempts to demoralize one side of this debate similar to several other threads started over the last couple of days to do them same thing; it doesn't appear to be real discussion, just an attempt to demoralize . . . to which I responded with the dead horse image

    Conspiracy Theory and http://talking-soccer.com/TS4/showpo...&postcount=132

"No. My child plays for a TA team, but your weak attempt to act as a site moderator is just silly."

This was (I think) the end of an exchange regarding disclosure. What I am came away with is that my questions regarding ties to clubs was deemed invasive by some parents:

If you are a parent, fair enough and I apologize if you thought my questions on ties were invasive.
If you work the Timbers or one of the leagues, tough. If you have skin in the game, in my opinion you should be disclosing it if you are posting on this forum.

In terms of conspiracy theory - I think folks use the forum at time to attempt to undermine the other side of the debate, much like a political campaign; I think it is naive to think that the only ones posting in this forum are parents.
