I guess my wording wasn't great. I wrote that with the intention each team would choose waht they would feel is best with the club input. they are going team by team, so I would guess they will put their teams in whichever league is going to be most competitive for that specific team. -
Yes, I'm not too thrilled about leagues splitting but my kids' leagues will be okay as they both are middle and bottom NPL and playing half NPL teams and half premier will be okay for them. Still a bummer. It all feels a lot like when the OPL split off. I don't see either side as being better than the other, both groups want the power, control and excess funds. By my count there were 375 teams in OPL Fall U11-U14. The Timbers are claiming in their Vision presentation that they have 149 teams committed to their league in these same age groups. A lot of it is also going to do with competition. If you are U11-U14 and in either the NPL or premier league, then OYSA will have a more competitive league for you to join, so those "bubble teams" will have a tough decision to make.Comment

You are right, and I am one thats been trying to stick to the numbers to be fair to both sides. Personally what I think is the weaker teams on both sides don't really care which league they end up in. To be honest the OPL's travel will probably be more enticing to those weaker teams that just want to stay local. Plus in the end the weaker teams are already used to being in divisions that often have a couple teams who blow everyone out, so the idea of unbalanced division is something they are already used to.Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
However, from U11-U14 I truly think the teams who are undecided but in the NPL or Premier division will go with the OYSA league as that league will already have a deeper talent pool and because of that the competition will be much closer where as the OPL will have a big talent gap in their top divisions. For numbers to help back that thought up currently 55% of the NPL and Premier leagues have already said they are moving to OYSA. Where as FC Portland, Thusc, and Crossfire only make up 25% of the top 2 leagues. So that leaves 20% of "undecided" teams. So if your in that undecided territory and you look at the teams and OYSA will have 9-10 from the NPL/Premier and OPL only has 4 from those top two league, then its pretty easy to see which league will give you a better division.Comment

Lets remember for NPL and Premier for OPL U11/U12 will not travel outside of what they consider portland metro which is as far south as Salam. That leaves at most age groups Maybe a trip to Eugene or Bend. Some will be better than others of course.
Also In the OPL For U13/U14 you have to travel home and away regardless who is in your group. So those OPL teams have already been traveling all over the state.
However, although I think travel will be an issue for the weaker teams, In the end if your one of the stronger undecided teams it usually comes down to competition. Teams at the top are willing to travel for good competition. Plus the more undecided choose OYSA the less travel there will be as well.
Its a numbers game. Do you want to join a league that has 4 teams in the top 16, or 8/9 teams in the top 16.Comment
