I guess my wording wasn't great. I wrote that with the intention each team would choose waht they would feel is best with the club input. they are going team by team, so I would guess they will put their teams in whichever league is going to be most competitive for that specific team.

Yes, I'm not too thrilled about leagues splitting but my kids' leagues will be okay as they both are middle and bottom NPL and playing half NPL teams and half premier will be okay for them. Still a bummer. It all feels a lot like when the OPL split off. I don't see either side as being better than the other, both groups want the power, control and excess funds. Just hope it'll only take a season or two for the vast majority of teams to be in the same league again.

Is your league stronger or weaker without these 3 clubs? Yes or no? Same for OPL is it stronger or weaker without some of the TA clubs?

LOL! There are still TWICE as many teams in the OPL.

By my count there were 375 teams in OPL Fall U11-U14. The Timbers are claiming in their Vision presentation that they have 149 teams committed to their league in these same age groups. That leaves 226 teams in OPL, or about 50% more than the Timbers league.

As published by OPL just last week:

Congratulations to all of our member clubs including Albany FC, Aloha United, Azul FC, BSC Hood River, BSC Newberg, BSC Portland, Canby United, Clackamas United SC, Corvallis United, Crossfire Oregon, FC Portland Academy, Foothills SC, Hillsboro SC, Lake Oswego SC, Molalla Youth Soccer, NorthEast United, Oregon City SC, Oregon Soccer Academy, Pacific FC, River Plate SC, FC Salmon Creek, Santos FC, SouthEast SC, Southside SC, THUSC, TFA Barcelona, Thelo United, United SA, Valley FC, Willamette United SC, Woodburn Athletic, and more.

                    As published by OYSA/Timbers:

A list of clubs that have already stepped up to support the new partnership include: Bend FC Timbers, Cascade Futbol Club, Eastside Timbers, Eugene Timbers, Hillsboro Soccer Club, Portland City United, Rogue Valley Timbers, Santos, Washington Timbers, Westside Timbers and Woodburn AFC

Yes they said congratulations, that doesn't mean those teams have committed to them for all their teams though. For example I would be very surprised if VFC and Corvallis don't go OYSA because of travel rules.

A lot of it is also going to do with competition. If you are U11-U14 and in either the NPL or premier league, then OYSA will have a more competitive league for you to join, so those "bubble teams" will have a tough decision to make.

That's counting every undecided or bubble team as going OPL. That's not going to happen. Expect those numbers to flip flop.

LOL, and the same can be said about the OYSA teams.... you people will grasp at anything wont you? Wishful thinking isn't a very good indicator.

You are right, and I am one thats been trying to stick to the numbers to be fair to both sides. Personally what I think is the weaker teams on both sides don't really care which league they end up in. To be honest the OPL's travel will probably be more enticing to those weaker teams that just want to stay local. Plus in the end the weaker teams are already used to being in divisions that often have a couple teams who blow everyone out, so the idea of unbalanced division is something they are already used to.

However, from U11-U14 I truly think the teams who are undecided but in the NPL or Premier division will go with the OYSA league as that league will already have a deeper talent pool and because of that the competition will be much closer where as the OPL will have a big talent gap in their top divisions. For numbers to help back that thought up currently 55% of the NPL and Premier leagues have already said they are moving to OYSA. Where as FC Portland, Thusc, and Crossfire only make up 25% of the top 2 leagues. So that leaves 20% of "undecided" teams. So if your in that undecided territory and you look at the teams and OYSA will have 9-10 from the NPL/Premier and OPL only has 4 from those top two league, then its pretty easy to see which league will give you a better division.

And that's still assuming your going to keep that talent in the OYSA, that no one is going to move to an OPL club because of concerns with things such as travel.

Lets not act like each age group is going to require 4 far trips. At most age groups you might travel outside of what you would travel in the OPL maybe once a league season.

Lets remember for NPL and Premier for OPL U11/U12 will not travel outside of what they consider portland metro which is as far south as Salam. That leaves at most age groups Maybe a trip to Eugene or Bend. Some will be better than others of course.

Also In the OPL For U13/U14 you have to travel home and away regardless who is in your group. So those OPL teams have already been traveling all over the state.

However, although I think travel will be an issue for the weaker teams, In the end if your one of the stronger undecided teams it usually comes down to competition. Teams at the top are willing to travel for good competition. Plus the more undecided choose OYSA the less travel there will be as well.

Its a numbers game. Do you want to join a league that has 4 teams in the top 16, or 8/9 teams in the top 16.
