    Were YOU there?

When, where and in what context? Are you telling me he openly admitted that the Timbers want to take over to line MP's pockets? Or more probably was he indicating that they needed more money to run a competitive ODP/DA program. If so what is wrong with that as long as it produces results for the players and their development?

Please provide more than hearsay to support a claim that can not be legally accomplished without the acquiescence of the democratically elected OYSA Board of Directors. All of the member clubs of the OYSA are not going to sit back and watch their player fees get sent to the Timbers without something in return.

You are insulting hundreds of Board members of local soccer clubs if you think they are that stupid. You have little to no understanding how the money is collected and paid and even less about how the budget for the organization is built and APPROVED.

Bring verifiable FACTS to this discussion or SHUT YER MOUTH!

Thank you for Making my point. I realize before the Timbers OYSA was charging every player a small fee to pay for ODP. Now the Timbers are doing the same thing. The 60k Angela wrote about was not enough. They apparently what more.

Yes I have a solution. The Timbers do not have to claim home grown players on their salary cap so with their great coaches they should get their money back plus. There is no need to take on the front end of development. If they don't see the DA as a viable way of getting a return on that investment maybe the kids should pay their own way.

            No it is ok

I get it now. Oysa was right the whole time. That is way the Timbers are coping the model.

            Great

It used to be all I read on talking soccer were complaints about the US system which requires the top youth to pay significantly to play and that we need to change this to be competitive. People also constantly complained that we need consolidation of talent to be more competitive outside of our area.

The Timbers with the Timbers Academy and Timbers Alliance are attempting to do all of this and now they are villains? It sure seems you people will never be happy. Nothing new and great was built in a day. Give it some time and then we can judge. Progress and change is always met with resistance but try having an open mind. Maybe this will improve soccer in Oregon. Nothing else has made much of a difference to date.

The board members have little choice now... the lemmings have jumped on the TA bandwagon and many have given up their clubs' autonomy and identities in exchange for what? At this point they will not have the courage to leave OYSA or the TA, nor will they want to admit making a mistake even if they don't like the direction things are going. So I can only wonder what TA's next move will be to further control youth soccer?? Whatever it is can't be good for non-TA clubs that's for sure!

I only abbreviated the quote above to make the point you can say the exact same thing about those remaining with OPL. It takes courage to change, maybe the FC, crossfire, THUSC folks don't have that courage. OPL is a thing of the past, time to move on... As the beat cop might say "nothing to see here..."

Exactly. This really should be the end of the discussion. But, sadly, it won't be.

They are not doing this out of goodness of their hearts, this was mandated by MLS and instead of "giving back" by providing this program they saw an opportunity to take advantage of the youth system to tax them to pay for their program.

Do you honestly think the OPL is running their league "out of the goodness of their hearts"? They take a cut of the fees as well and are sitting on a stockpile of cash for the effort. Both organizations are using the players to help fund their leagues.

Now, you can argue about the merits of one league over the other, but to say that one is taking a cut of the cash while the other isn't is blindly foolish.

There is a HUGE difference between a FOR profit company running youth soccer and taking a cut vs a non profit company. All funds in the OPL will make its way back to youth soccer eventually. OYSA soccer profits will only go back to the Timbers to subsidize what they are SUPPOSED to be GIVING back. The GIVING part is what's missing with our beloved greedy Timbers.

Additionally, you are kidding yourself if you are a non-TA club playing in the OYSA. You will not be treated fairly. Timbers proved this last year with how they used the $60k from the OPL.

I see it as being quite different, one is putting the money back in to soccer community benefiting many while the other is using the money to help pay for their own program that benefits very few.

This is precisely it. Only the Timbers and TA clubs will benefit.

Yes I'm talking to you! You have no clue "who" makes up OYSA membership or how they function. I suggest you EDUCATE YORUSELF and get back to us when you figure out that GW can no more control the OYSA now than he could before the great 8 left to form the OPL.
