The same parents who were told by their DOC's 5 years ago this is 'the' league you're going to play in.... are the same parents being told this again today.

Too bad as paying customers you don't have any say in the matter.

Always the first response when someone put down the OPL to its supporters "You must be a paid OYSA employee". Have you nothing better to come up with ? Since I think they only have 2.5 people left there probably isnt a lot of time in their day to sit and argue with idiots like you.

I live in the greater Portland area. Im not sure what problems you are talking about. Your about as vague as you can be. What exactly has the OPL done to improve soccer in this state ?

They promised better scheduling (FAIL !!)
They promised no travel (FAIL !!)
They spoke about FREE elite training = ID2 (FAIL !!)
They spoke of lower costs to the teams...yet no OPC clubs tuition's were ever reduced (FAIL !!)

The only thing the OPL did was create an income source to a group of the most powerful clubs in Portland for and only for themselves. It was power and control that was at the root of their existence. If not, why wouldnt they have taken the offer to return to OYSA a couple of years ago and still run and manage their own (and all of the rest of the OYSA) leagues ? They were not only offered card fees the same as they were paying, allowed to run the only statewide premier league and collect all their fees they had been, plus all the league fees for the existing league that OYSA was running.

I can see and read their annual reports, as well as their monthly BOD's minutes that OYSA spends their money all across the state to every player they can (including those far less fortunate then the majority = Top Soccer)

They offer coach training and licensing (the very license every coach in this state holds, including your beloved OPL coach) Shouldnt you thank them for doing that ?, the OPL cant do it.

They offer an elite training program to those that are deserving and worthy (ODP/DA) to as many as they should (Not even a local club could do this successfully, i.e. FC PDX).

Their player fees are exactly the same as the OPL's.

Their league fees are exactly the same as the OPL's

So where does all that money go, or going to go that is considered excess or "profit" in the OPC books ? Nobody knows and nobody will ever know til one of them spills the beans in disgust.

If I have to give my tuition payment profit to an organization, Id like it to go to one that helps promote the whole sport across the board to as many kids as possible, even those as far away from Portland as possible. That is how a state organization is supposed to run. If there is any left over, Id surely give it to it's title sponsor (Timbers) for supporting the sport all across the state to as many kids as possible.

WST and EST are stakeholders just like the other clubs. They were founding members and led the move away from OYSA. WST and EST influence how the OPL is run just like the other clubs.

The question needs to be asked why they are abandoning the move they led just a few years ago and tearing apart Oregon youth soccer yet again.

John Bain stood up in front of the entire competitive soccer community and said if it didn't work they would have some explaining to do. Well it obviously did not work as envisioned and now he and GW are taking their clubs back.

So the OBVIOUS question is WHY are the other founding clubs incapable of admitting their mistake.......oh silly me the EGO of a DOC is a very powerful force. Too bad the Boards of the remaining clubs can't see the hand writing on the wall and do the right thing.

I hope you know that the few pennies that GW and the Timbers may or may not be getting from running OSYA pales in comparison to the damage STAYING in the OPL will do to your team and clubs ability to have quality competition and even membership going forward.

Rather than fight and disparage each other wouldn't it make sense to communicate to your clubs board that you want to continue to see the best teams play against each other?

Be the squeaky wheel.

It will hurt all the kids if there isn't some sort of tarty that allows all the best teams to continue to play each other.
