    We are the problem

I'm on my third child going through top level soccer.

    I've had a '94 - currently playing college
    '95- currently playing college
And a '00-playing top level club

Yes, I know...why the five year spread....well, she was kind of an accident :)

I wanted to post one thing.....

We as parents are the reason for 95% of the issues in club soccer!
As a parent stay the f$&k home and let the coaches coach.

Your daughter is not the next MIA Hamm....I promise
Your son is not "special" and will not be the next Landon Donovan...I promise

Chill out, enjoy the ride....let them be kids

Yes, I'm talking to you....the parent that talks to their kids to and from the games... Giving pointers with your American football and baseball mentality...leave your child alone!

This is the reality that most parents are blind to. As we watch our kids play, we do see them as stars which is given bias for all. Coaches also add and feed off to parents as they are passionate for that development game and win. I have calmed myself down after seeing a video of a game and myself on the sidelines. I agree with your comments but parents will never change unless they eventually see themselves with their own eyes.

My 17 yr. old nephew quit his high school soccer team and travel soccer team his junior year. He did it to hurt his father. The father was overly invested in his soccer playing and was highly critical. He would stand on top of the hill, alone, and watch his son's game with an intense focus. The father was furious that the son quit right before the college search but the boy wouldn't budge.

It was a pity because my nephew was a very talented soccer player but couldn't have his relationship with his father be solely about how well he played.

Right, only the original post message was so poorly conveyed the message they clearly were trying to piss people off more than try to give some good advise.

If one has to used masked cuss words to make a point, they probably aren't a very effective communicator . . . as evidenced by that post.

You are probably a government employee... post all day on talking soccer and then bill the government hours for staying late.

We are poor consumers of what is offered

The title is correct but the reasoning is off a few degrees. We are the problem because the vast majority of paying customers in this country do not know what they should be buying and constantly pay for wine and get grape juice instead.

In other countries and even in other portions of this country the Parents are more educated about what should be being taught and how it should be taught and have OPTIONS where to get that teaching.

Here in Oregon 90% of parents have your attitude that if you write the check everything will take care of it's self and you denigrate those of us who can see that we are being swindled and sold a bill of goods. You are also the ones who don't understand that this is COMPETITIVE soccer not rec and building a skill set and team requires an intensity never seen on a club level in Oregon and only occasionally on a team level. This is why some of our best girls are traveling north for ECNL and boys choosing the DA. Both choices would be unnecessary of we as a group would become more EDUCATED consumers of soccer development programs.

An educated consumer base would not put up with the mediocre results for the dollars spent and would not continue to pay 6 figure salaries to DOC's that don't teach a complete approach to the game or send their players to clubs that do not support the sex of their player with talented coaches. An educated consumer base would not support TWO associations in a small market. Hell even the NBA merged with the ABA.

Yes we ARE the problem because we don't take the time to learn the game and how the development process works in other parts of the country and world and DEMAND that we do what WORKS rather than continue our INSANE repetition of what is obviously NOT working.
