Out of the 30 or so games I've seem in the last six months, there were:

10 really good referees
10 decent referees. Not great but "no calls" go both ways.
10 terrible referees. Inconsistent. Poor calls. Lack of calls. Poor conditioning.

The ratio is even worse with the ARs. A very important part of that position is calling offsides. If you are enjoying the game as an AR, it is very difficult to call offsides. I hazard a guess that many don't even understand offsides completely.

If we only used good referees, many games would be cancelled due to lack of referees.


I should add its a pretty thankless job that doesn't pay much. I'd last about 20 minutes tops. Life's too short.
