How long has the MLS been around? Look at where they are today. It is not like they are making a ton of money in most place. And yes, Portland is one of the markets where MLS has been extremely popular.

Both teams have been good for Portland.

If more MLS teams took note of the how the Timbers are related so closely to the youth soccer organizations here locally, maybe more of them, along with the womens side would be viewed in person.

They are 2 totally different target market.

The MLS caters to the 20 - 35 year old males. They would die a slow death if their target market was the youth and family. Take a look at the Timber's Army and the language during a game. There is a book written on this. The youth soccer portion is just incremental revenue that MP is pursuing, but the target market is younger adult males.

Women's soccer is more family oriented. Not sure if this can be succesful, but is doing well in Portland.
