Just watched my two kids play soccer games all weekend at the Mt. Hood Challenge 2013. Been an avid soccer player and enthusiast for years and I have never seen players and a team so skillful as the La Amistad Soccer Club Eagles (LASC Eagles). Here's what's most astonishing - the kids are 8 years old! My son had to play this team in the finals of the Gold division for U9 and boy was it fascinating to watch. At U9 you see a lot of skillful players that are comfortable with the ball and maybe, you'll see a couple of teams who know how to use triangulation to move the ball forward, but this team, the LASC Eagles did what you see at the U12 premier level. Every pass has a purpose, the weight of their passes are perfect, they play possession soccer Tiki Taka style, they do combination plays, and the freaking boys are so relaxed the whole time. LASC Eagles killed every team from 9-0, 10-0, 14-0, etc. My son's team was fortunate to lose only 6-0. How these kids from LASC play is not just inherent skill - this stuff was taught to them and they have the intelligence to absorb it. So there is a possibility you can teach this stuff at U9. The coaches must be brilliant. Anyone know about this club and the coaches?

Coaches brilliant?! Hahahahhaha
La amistad is made up of Hispanic players. At 9 years old they have a better understanding of the game then 90% of club players. They were watching the game religiously, play with their dads or brothers non stop.
Period.
Culture of soccer absolutely trumps anything any coach or any club can come close at that age including a John Bain or whoever.
An example of a coaches kid in a thusc FC Westside etc. normally they are pretty good. They are around the game more. See the game earlier. Doesn't even come near what the little kids from la amistad at that age.

I'm not sure this is accurate but I have also heard people describe physical differences between the Hispanic player and others, in that, a lot of times you will see Hispanic players physically more advanced at younger ages but then sometimes are caught and/or passed. Not sure on that one... just thought I'd throw that in there.

Not your ordinary Hispanic team
While I agree with both of you about the Hispanic culture enhancing the soccer experience of their players, I have to disagree with you that what I observed was common amongst the Hispanic players at a young age. I have seen Hispanic players from WAFC (Woodburn), FC Santos, and River Plate Soccer Club. Like La Amistad, they had all these little Messis, Chicharitos, and Neymars running around, but unlike all the other Hispanic clubs, this team was ORGANIZED. When I watch these Hispanic clubs play, the players are in it for themselves. They are individuals trying to take over an entire team. On the other hand, this LASC Eagles team swooped in like lions to kill their prey. They work together, synchronized, to get the goals. Extremely organized and calm. This is a result of coaching, not just watching their parents play.

They are all hispanic kids so they understand what the announcers are saying when they watch soccer games on the Mexican channel.

I don't think there is enough stereotyping in this thread . . . on top of all the other things said pretty sure that also all the parents wash dishes for a living and the only hope these kids have is playing soccer for a living.
Once the rich white kids start playing club soccer they will develop further than the hispanic players both intellectually and physically.
Orygun is about about as white as gets . . .

He only charges $5 because you leave his training sessions with serious GAS issues. Your kid spends the entire next 12 hours with serious bad fumes coming out the other end.
