I would like to point out the foul around the 2:10 mark against a west linn player in the box.. That certainly should have warranted a PK....

I don't have a dog in the fight and just watched the video. Observation is: 1st one was close and could have gone either way, but certainly not a flop. 2nd was a call that needed to be made as the defender clipped her from behind.

You can't call a foul on the first one. Certainly not in a playoff game and not on a foul in the box. Fouls in the box have to be pretty significant. Terrible call by the ref. Make the teams earn it. And in reality, that decided the game. You have to let the play on the field determine the game. Just another example of bad officiating. In our playoff game, we actually had some decent officiating. We were due, after 4 games of crummy officiating. I heard about the "magic ball" call against Tualatin a couple of weeks ago. A ball defied physics in the refs opinion. We played Tigard this year and if all WV can do is get two shots on PKs, then Tigard wins in a rout.

If you guys are debating over those calls, did anyone happen to see the OC @ SHS game? There's a difference between letting teams 'Play' and letting them get away with flagrant fouls. At one point the OC keeper grabbed the leg of a SHS forward so she wouldn't get to the deflection. No call.
There were bodies all over the turf. Both sides were awarded some lousy calls and then the most outrageous were allowed to 'Play on'. At the end the OC crowed was actually yelling obscenities at the ref. Not a very classy move, but I can definitely understand the frustration. At least he was making consistent bad calls for both teams if there was a silver lining.

OC parents yelling at a ref for bad calls? Oh, that's rich. Filthiest team in HS. That coach is a complete disgrace to HS, check that, all of soccer. Sunset should be happy they came out with less than three injured players. OC, a completely dirty team. And of course, another example of the crummy refereeing that we continue to see in HS soccer.

OC players are allowed to play thug soccer by the referee's and that is the real shame here. good officiating can put a stop to that type of play yet OC girls were allowed to concuss multiple players this year in the TRL and not one was a red card issued. Unfortunately the powers that be in the other schools of the TRL are too timid to call to the OC AD or the OSAA and complain. I guess all that talk about player safety is just that...talk.

I was at the game and didn't see anything out of the ordinary from the OC coach. Please explain what you are referring to. I can't even recall him yelling honestly, of course my attention wasn't on him but if it was anything that would have caused a disturbance, I'm sure it would have drawn attention.

The ref only called something if somebody went down.

She would have gotten the call if she went to the turf so having good balance cost the team in this case. The first call for WV in the box was against a very slight player who did not need much "help" to go down and when that help is a ball tackle the ref should know to swallow the whistle.

WV had one shot on goal other than the PK's and will get handled by Tigard 3+ to ZERO.

I watched the entire game and didn't think I saw anything any more physical than other games I've seen this season. Did my DD come home with a fat lip, sure. But she is a physical player as well. Did the ref miss calls for both sides? Absolutely. Now, we are not in the same league, and those who are can speak from much more experience and can shed way more light on the subject than a team who has only played them once. But, if they have caused intentional injury, than there is no way the coach should be coaching and the players need to be disciplined. All I'm saying is I didn't see that side on Monday night.

What's amazing is that the top 14 seeds all won in the first round. People make fun of the rankings but they seem to be reasonably accurate. Any upsets in the second round?

He doesn't yell it, instead he coaches his players to play in a harmful way, as that is the only way they can compete. If you catch them with a ref who calls the game tight, the game is 5-0 or worse. If you catch them with a ref who allows lots of contact early, then it only progresses during the game and OC can keep it tight. That is likely why Sunset only beat them 2-0. Calling the game tight would have allowed Sunset's more dominant skills and athleticism to shine and the game would have been 5 or 6 to zero. OC's coach should not be allowed to coach and should be disciplined by OSAA.

Ease up on poor old OC, they have won about 7 games in TRL over the last 5 years. No wonder they play rough! Since they are moving out of the TRL next year to a weaker league maybe they will do better.

Rough play is learned in club soccer long before the kids even get to high school so I wouldn't be to rough on the coach. It's up to the officials to police the game and not the coach.

We are in Three Rivers with OC and have played them twice. In our experience it has been physical, but no different than other teams having a physical player or two. Personally I think Clackamas is more physical.

Sunset parent here, I too don't think the game was any more physical than say, Beaverton, Southridge or Clackamas. They did push the defenders way up which, frankly, was a great strategy until the girls figured out how to stay onside and wait for the through ball. Good hard fought game in my opinion.
