actually, I'm pretty sure those that won the tournament know they won the tournament. And those that "medalled" in the consolation brackets know it as well.

Just gives a lot of kids a chance to have a positive outcome to the weekend.....

MHC is different than other local tournaments for good reason!

So I remember hearing these same things from many at Southside years ago and it still sounds like some a SSC are still very jealous of Mikes success even today. It’s sad really. You must not have gotten enough money out of the lawsuit SSC brought against Mike when he walked away from Chinook, or maybe now Mikes 630+ team tournament success has just kicked your butt and you don’t like it very much!! If you don't like the way Mike sets up his tournament, please continue to not take part in it. As it is, he apparently doesn't need your participation anyway.

Other local tournaments reward the best or elite teams in each division and that's great. Mikes always had another focus. How about having a tournament that determines at what level of play each team is currently at in two games, and then let them battle it out in a playoff?? Even though this tournament gets some very good teams, the goal was never just to reward only the best teams. The goal was to let teams at every level compete with other teams at their same level for a championship, yes even a medal. There is no medal for just participation like is being claimed. Each team when they have completed their first two games is placed in a playoff and battle against other teams that have performed similarly. I have personally seen the look of accomplishment one each and every players face when they in fact feel they have accomplished something by winning the playoff they participated in, even though it was only at their current level of play. Not many teams can compete for the Gold, Silver, or Bronze division’s medals, but in the MHC teams evenly matched can feel a sense of accomplishment and pride and at 630+ teams you would have to concede this has a place in the tournament market today and has been very successful. For those who disagree with giving teams at every level an opportunity to compete with other teams at their same level, then the other winner take all tournaments are for you and you should skip the MHC. And if you are one of those jealous SSC or LO persons, get over it and move on. You should be happy you can now take direct responsibility for the success or failure of your own sub 200 team tournament. For me Mike should be commended and rewarded for his efforts to advance youth soccer for every player at every level.

As far as making a living on running tournaments for clubs, I’d say Mike does a great job and earns every dime he negotiates, as he is held accountable for his performance every year. Oh and by the way all those rented fields are benefiting, WUSC is benefiting, all those partner clubs are benefiting, all those HS programs are benefiting, and all those communities are getting a tremendous influx of dollars over both weekends of the MHC. It’s a well-run tournament and although different from a typical tournament, it’s very successful. Maybe that’s the rub!!!!

You mention rewarding teams competing at the same level is great. Isn't that why they have different brackets in the first place? You put yourself in a bracket with like competition. Most age groups already had premier, gold, silver, and bronze. At some age groups there were 12 champions. Seems a bit ridiculous but then again the Mt. Hood Challenge is a glorified rec tournament.

You weren't there, were you? If you were, you would know that there is a wide disparity of talent at each level. Many Premier level brackets that I watched had some teams that, for whatever reason, felt that this was the place for them to play, but they were quickly outmatched. Many teams had two lopsided games (their first two), followed by two close games.

The thing I like about this tournament is the self-selection and self-regulating aspect of it. Unlike many other tournaments, each team can decide in which level they think they should play. It's not up to the tournament organizer to decide. So you get teams from some of the Hispanic leagues showing up and kicking the butts of the "establishment" clubs.

Your comment about "glorified rec" is ignorant.

it's suppose to be called the 'extra 2%' the WUSC gets do to an increase from 200 to 600 teams.

My. Hood is glorified rec. it's no secret. If your coach gets a big head and places his team in the wrong bracket then it should be lesson learned and not a first place medal in the polka dot play offs when the team was the 4th worst team in the tournament.

Wow. You are one funny little twerp.

Maybe Hood is not up to your high standards. Wondering which tournaments your superteam played at this year?

Your team must be the ones that the California teams all called "the rec team from the northwest". It was on the news.
