Salem(CFC) & Kaiser (KSC) Questions for Boys

    Hi all,

Came across this forum, not sure who else to ask. I have never played and don't understand any of the politics, etc. that we are entering into.

Our first son will be in U10 next year (I guess, summer 2014). He is a great little player (but not outstandingly advanced or anything. Probably top 10%, but not the best). He loves soccer, we are not sure what we are doing but are entering a crossroad and don't want to mess it up for him.

We are a religious family. I understand people may not understand, but we do not want our child to play EVERY Sunday. We understand the tournaments will be on some Sundays, and are ok with that.

CFC has a U10 Bridge Program that plays games every Sunday up in Tigard.

KSC has U10 Premier that plays on their fields on Saturdays, with occasional Sundays.

KSC sounds like a better fit for our family, but we don't know much (or anything) about KSC.

Not sure what my question is really, but I guess I want someone to tell me I'm not doing our son a huge dis-service by having him play KSC boys. Everything on here I have read says CFC is better for boys.

I'll give it a try, we have had kids play at both CFC and Keizer in their early years. I don't think you will hurt your son to keep him at Keizer for U10. The CFC bridge program is probably better than what Keizer offers but it's probably not a huge difference. Where the difference really shows is at U11 and up. Keizer doesn't really have a competitive program and most of their teams fall apart within a couple years. If your son is really into soccer you will want to switch at U11. Once you start the competitive program you will have games on Sunday's but not every Sunday and the times will vary from 8:00 am to late afternoon so it shouldn't always impact your church plans. Hope that helps!

Totally agree with this. One thing I would say with it is it probably would be an easier transition starting at cfc. The boys side is pretty competitive and if two kids are totally equal skill wise the club likely would pick the cfc kid if there was only one spot.

Also there are always Saturday night services or online options for church. We did Sundays all fall last year and we were able to make it to church about 85% of the Sundays we had games

Good advice above. I have two boys who play at CFC, and particularly at the younger ages the kids put a lot of focus on playing with their friends. CFC does a better job developing skills in young players.

The other thing I would caution you on is a culture has sprung up among some parents at Keizer where a kid leaving, even if Keizer has nothing for them, and going to play at a different club, especially CFC is seen as a traitor. I have seen it get particularly nasty with girls, but have also witnessed it with boys.
