    Boys 02

I haven't seen a thread dedicated to this group, so now we do.

Beaverton Cup was very interesting. Many great teams, and 4 qualifying for NWCL:

    WT Copa
    ET Reds
    ***C Reds
    WAFC Real Madrid

Congrats to those teams. Did it settle out as you expected? Which teams do you think should have made it that didn't?

    Discuss any and all.

I was surprised to see WST beat Eastside in the final. Eastside is currently the best team, at least by wins and losses. They are big and athletic. They also have been taught tactically well, particularly on switching fields. The funnest team to watch is ***C. They are small but very skilled and pass the ball well. They seem to struggle against ET's size and athleticism. Wafc is similar to ***C. WST is very dangerous and can beat any team as shown in the Beaverton cup. They have some size and speed but not as big as ET. Individual skills are very solid, an edge over ET but not as skilled as ***C and wafc IMHO. size matters as shown in this tourney.

Some teams that look good are NEU and THUSC. But THUSC relies a ton on their fast forward. NEU can knock the ball around pretty well and have some size. They can be dangerous as shown in their tie against ET.

I was surprised that FC pdx was not stronger. I think they were shutout in all their games. The top 3 teams appear to be the Alliance teams: ET, WST and WaT. the younger teams are going the way of the Alliance? Not sure if this is real or not but same thing at u12. If the u10's are the same we definitely have a trend.

It is true that the top talent at the younger ages for boys are gravitating to the Alliance teams. Turnout to try outs was high and they are fielding multiple teams at the U11 level. Even their B teams can beat most other club's A teams so far this summer. Will be interesting to see how they fare up in WA as the season progresses.

It could be a trend but at the same time Eastside and Westside have always been the top clubs for boys at the younger ages in particular. FC seems to be struggling but the fact that THUSC was even mentioned in the conversation is something different. ***C got a lot stronger with the WSA merger and that's where you're seeing the difference for them.

1st weekend of NWCL took place last weekend. The 4 Oregon/SW Wa teams held their own against the big bad Seattle Clubs.

Eastside Timbers: loss to Crossfire A 1-2, win MVP Rapids 7-1, and win Eastside Red 4-0.
Wa Timbers: tie Seattle United 1-1, tie Crossfire A 0-0, and win MVP Rapids 4-0.
Westside Timbers: win Wa Premier Black 2-1, loss Seattle United 2-3, loss Crossfire A 1-2.
WAFC: win Crossfire B 7-3, loss Wa Premier Black 3-5, loss Seattle United 2-6.

That's a solid showing. Crossfire A waltzed through Washington State cup last April at U10. Looks like they were tested all 3 times this weekend. Anyone see those Crossfire matchups? How did those games go?

Is 2002 U11 or U12? There are boys born in this year at both.
