HAHAHA FC Showcase

Not that many here or anywhere in this division. Just the normal suspects.

Looking at this years class not a lot of college recruits as a result of the Timbers DA. It looks like the clubs did a better job of placing players with the FC Portland Showcase.

The FC Showcase is mostly local/regional colleges.

TA teams travel around more (free) and those draw a higher level of colleges.

If you can make a TA team, take it. HS Soccer Sucks. Get good grades and your odds go up to any college.

There is one player but not sure he is the same age. He received numerous offers but . . . It was sad about Eddie but not sure he wanted it as it could have interfered with plans to play pro in Mexico. Not sure if that is the proper perspective or total truth. I think we can have this discussion next time I see you.

DA does not make the players but it does open up more opportunities e.g Harvard does not make you succeed but it will open doors. Those opportunities are hard to calculate but, per the market, parents are willing to pay for them. Similarly, even though you do not pay for the academy, it comes at a cost. They care very little about the parents and do not hide the fact you are joining an organization where your kid is regarded as a piece of property. No guaranteed playing time and it is a sobering touch of reality for many young men who think pros are an alternative to education. Probably not.

Problem with the DA is the college coaches think the Smith's are terrible and don't give credit to anything they say. That is way you see this years recruiting class doing so poorly.

Timbers DA sucks. Don't bother. D1 schools look at the DA for a select top few. The D2, D3 and NAIA are going to the clubs to get players. Basically unless you are the top player in the DA you are going to get left behind. Path way to no where.

Don't know if that's true or not. But it's not like the Smiths' past experience established credibility when it came to assessing youth talent or the likelihood of college level success. They lack significant prior youth coaching experience as well as college coaching experience. They might be absolutely right in their assessment and methods but they don't have that "trust me" factor that only comes through a proven track record of success.

Why, why, why? Don't sign on just because you can! Exposure means nothing without a little marketing behind it. Arguably the best players on the younger DA team has talked to fewer colleges than four of the players on our club team. Recruiting (for boys) is about self-promotion, grades, and performance at the right time. Agreed you get more opportunities to perform as part of the TA, but without the others it really doesn't matter. The TA has done a shameful job of supporting their student-athletes. I guess they're not student-athletes; they're on the pathway to the pros.

Waaaaa my kid didnt make the team so lets Bash the program!

Waaaaa my kid made it but just because they made it means colleges should want them before the other hundreds of da kids...but my kid is the best in Oregon (like being the smartest idiot) so I shouldn't have to do jack to help them contact people.

Waaaaa my kid doesn't like the coach and I hate the coach too, he has no connections he is a waste.....(pretty evident the reason why they aren't playing, it has nothing to do with the coaches) do you wipe for them too? Or do people wipe for you I should say?

100% agree. Maybe they should next blame the club coaches who had the players for 90% of their careers and didnt do enough to make them as good as they need to be??!
