I was appalled and disgusted first by a coach being a child molester at Eastside or anywhere for that matter, but also by the reaction of the Eastside president on the news. He said the coach was a "great guy", he would "still trust him with kids", and "It didn't happen during soccer related actives" like that matters at all. The man molested a 12 year old girl while his own wife is battling cancer. The president should have been outraged and cut any ties with the coach. Apparently others have not learned from what happened at Penn State University. Old senile men who just don't get that the child is the victim, not the molester. I would not hitch my wagon or have my children affiliate themselves with someone who shares these views.

Oh, so you are a criminal justice expert, having interviewed the alleged victim and alleged offender, along with evaluating all the evidence? Thanks. We were all anxious to hear the official outcome. I suppose we can forgo the trial and just take your recommendation on the sentencing.

Where exactly in his interview did he back him? I never heard him say in his interviews (i'll have to try and find some other ones than the ones Ive listened to, unless you want to post the link) but I never heard him say that he would still trust him with the kids.
Him saying its hard to believe, does not mean hes backing him. Just being honest that someone you think you know does this its hard to believe. Plus he has to be careful, its not his place to pick up a pitch fork and start the mob. His duty is to his club, which he made clear these events did not happen within the club, that just because it was a player doesn't mean that the club is responsible. Its one tricky thing about parent coaches though. If your daughter has friends on the team then those friends may want to spend the night, which this could very well have been. When you don't have a parent coach then its easy to keep everything professional.

The coach already resigned a few days ago, so it is not like he is still with the club.

Let's add them up... how many at East Side now? 3? This guy also coached for FC, so that brings them to 3 too. Notice a pattern anyone?

Come on people wake up!
As referenced above it seems like this is the third or fourth offense of this nature involving youth soccer coaches in Portland. What really shocks me however is that each time there are those who want to hang the accused and there are those who go down the line that "it didn't happen at the club so we have no responsibility. ". My Child will not play for a club where these kind of things happen. It is up to the club to create an environment that keeps kids safe. This involves knowing your coaches, implementing a child protective policy, among other things. Any club that has not done those things, especially after multiple offenses, simply does not deserve to be in business.

Parents need to start parenting and not leave it to everyone else then not take responsbility when something happens to their own child. Why would you leave a 12 year old alone with adult male?
What shocks me is that parents like you who expect the soccer clubs to do your job for you. The environment at the club is safe. If as a parent you want to leave your child off site with an adult coach unsupervised then shame on you. Every single one of these incidents were off site and yet parents are still leaving there kids alone and unattended. That one is on the parents.
Just do a Google search and you will see that it is not just isolated to soccer or sports for that matter. If you have kids then you need to act like a parent and look after them.
Any parents leaving their daughter with a male coach unsupervised does not deserve to be a parent.

This is what the founder of the Eastside Timbers Soccer Club is quoted as saying:
"I'm not saying anybody's lying. I'm just saying from a human’s perspective, it's just, it's really hard for all of us to believe that because Joey's just an incredible young man," Pollard said.
Nice . . . so he isn't saying the girl is lying, but even if "Joey" did this, he is still an incredible young man. I guess we can all have our definitions of "incredible young man" . . . someone in jail accused of sexual abuse on a 12 year old doesn't fit my definition of incredible young man . . . and it's scary that someone involved in youth sports thinks someone who at the very least has been accused and charged with abusing a kid can still is an incredible young man.
Wonder if he will continue to think that when "Joey" admits to it or is found guilty. My guess is yes, still an incredible young man who just made a bad decision. Probably still let him coach his daughter when he gets done with his prison time. Only then he will be an "incredible old man"

Why on earth would Butch Pollard say that about someone who is accused of sexually abusing a 12 year old girl. Sounds like Butch has more sympathy for Joey than he does the 12 year old girl . . . which is shocking considering his involvement with kids.
Also, I don't get where you come up with the conclusion that Butch has more sympathy for Joey then the victim.
