There is nothing wrong with aspiring for more and asking questions. I know of one particular incidence where a coach did not like a kid at all... Did not play him. A regional coach ask to see him and it was all over. Kid was hold over and beyond. Reality check is good but there is nothing wrong with a kid that wants to keep trying even if they fail.
    Wow you guys are ridiculous.....

First. The above is a lie. Regional coaches do not ask to see players especially if a state coach didn't play them which is another lie.

Im sure the national team players right now were just "lucky".

If they are good enough they will go even without this ODP deal.

If they are not....well they have you to make excuses for them

What I have learned from ODP is you HAVE to have someone in your court, pushing for your kid. It is important not to get too caught up in it. There are lots of kids that do not even play ODP and go on to have good D1 college careers.
There are also lots of kids who made ODP who end up going nowhere beyond that. That's fine too.

Shhhhh, don't tell the parents of the ODP region holdover kids that. They are counting on a full ride to Stanford.

One thing I have seen is that ODP can teach kids to be selfish since it is not a team that moves on but rather an individual. I know of a player who has done ODP for years, gets lots of attention and has gone to holdover and beyond. Yet they are extremely selfish when they play on their club team. This person almost kills the teamwork on their club team when they are playing. I've seen them play without the player and they are a different team, and play a much better team game without the player.

My kid is destined to become a National team player even though she can't kick the ball with her left foot at 13....

Everyone needs a dream I suppose.

Next we'll see you on here complaining that the coach didn't like her...

            You make no sense

I love these guys that think they know everything...Call it what you want. I could name names and locations but I wont. The kid was great, a little lucky , that moment, but he was good enough that someone would have found him anyway.

I am not sure what is wrong with you? Somebody on here asked a question because they were not given all the information about regional camp. Another person was kind enough to answer and you have a melt down about excuses and who really belongs at ODP events and that everyone is stupid. You are so angry ? Why?

Your comment "If they are good enough they will go without ODP" I believe is what everyone is saying already. Not sure why your panties are in a twist

There are not many boys that have made it to the national team or the MLS that 'bypassed' ODP. If there are any it's a short list. As much as people bag on the process and system, ODP matters a lot... At least for the boys.

You're right, but the list of players who made ODP and went nowhere is a very long one. Just like the list of players who make the academy and go nowhere will end up being a long list. It's not because they're not good players either. It's because there are very few slots the further up the competitive chain they go.

Very true. I guess my point is that the path to greatness goes through ODP, particularly for boys. So if it is your DS' dream to become a pro soccer player or play for the national team, you pretty much need to do ODP. It's a fine line. You want to be realistic with your child and tell him that statistically their chances are very, very small of making it big. Give them reality. But at the same time if you squash their dream you take away the main catalyst for ever making it big... The belief that they can do it.

If they are not good enough to make ODP for Oregon then they will not ever make it big.

Sorry, but that is the truth.
