Not only smart, but a sign of goodwill in the community. They're willing to take in "project" kids (what Timbers clubs call their "superstars") from low performing Timbers clubs and try to develop them into someone that can play soccer and maybe get 10-15 minutes per game.

Sure, if you count one year in a TA club before mom and dad wake up and realize what a waste it is. And why do you think all those players are going TO fc Portland? I don't recall ever hearing of a player leaving fc for a TA team. Wonder why.

Waking up and realizing TA club is a waste is not what happens. Players are going to FCP because a majority of the people that leave the TA clubs are the bat sh*t crazy parents that are the cancers of the team and the parents are not getting their way so they throw a fit and leave. People are happy to see them leave. Then they recruit other bat sh*t crazy parents and they all politic and think their DD is then next soccer super star. It's quite amusing! Then those same parents litter talking soccer with bullsh*t propaganda and think they are better than everyone else. Birds of a feather flock together. FCP=F*cking Crazy Parents.

How come all the "crazies" seem to have the kids that are the best players then? Seems the TA teams fold up pretty quickly once their "crazies" start leaving.

The "crazies" don't have the best players, but ssshhh don't tell them that. If you don't have the "crazies" then the whole ECNL scam doesn't work. The crazy parents with average kids do not mind paying the money to have their kid travel to have limited playing time (10 mins per game if lucky) and help subsidize the few kids that are great. They think their DD is better than everyone else and let everyone know even with limited playing time. They are the parents of players that went from a B or C team or did not start on an A team and now play ECNL. We all know these parents. They are so "crazy" that the kids that could help make those teams better avoid them at all cost. See the problem here. The crazies help subsidize but don't help you actually put together a quality team that can compete, they help fill your bench and help with practice attendance and keep away quality players that are done dealing with the "crazies" and their antics. FCP keeps gaining more "crazies" than quality players.

Great example of FCP's poor performance was this last weekend in San Diego for playoffs:
FCP U15's made the Showcase Cup which is the 3rd division (basically losers bracket) and was only able to put up 1 win (against Utah who they play in league) and 2 losses. I guess the one positive note is they actually made the Showcase Cup whereas Crossfire United couldn't even do that.
FCP U16's again played in the Showcase Cup and faired a llittle better in the loser bracket with 1 win-1 tie-1 loss.
FCP U17's actually played in the 2nd division, North American Cup but were not able to put any wins on the board. Crossfire United did have their U17's in the Champions League (top division, bravo) and went 1-2 for the weekend.
FCP U18's didn't represent.
