The DPL statement made it sound like US Soccer is having a meeting on Nov 22nd and this is one of their agenda items, but no one (probably not even the people going to the meeting) know what they will decide

Seems likely that this is happening, switching back to the way it was.

Many news articles indicate an announcement is forthcoming on November 22.

Should never have switched years ago.

This is how ot was spun, which is a completely false narrative.

t is important to note a FACT that has not been accurately represented in this conversation.

All of Europe and the rest of the world does NOT do Birth Year Registration. There’s been a lot of narrative along the lines of “This puts us on track with the rest of the world.” or “This is how all of Europe does it.” That is not the case.

England and Wales do school year age grouping.

France does school year age grouping.*

Sweden does school year age grouping.*

Argentina does school year age grouping.

I’m sure there are many more countries as well – these are just the countries I am aware of.

Another important point. In most countries around the world, the school registration date is mandated by the national government, not states like it is here. Many countries do school year registration by birth year (*this is what Sweden and France do) so this entire conversation is not even relevant to any of those countries

American parents naively buy into these type of myths, much like useless cross country travel for medicore Oregon neighborhood club teams.

Well I am totally against it. My kid will be one of the youngest instead of in the middle of the age group. Let's keep screwing over the kids with birthdays in September and beyond. If someone is going to get screwed, I'd rather it be someone else's kids. ;)

The middle Month of a Birth Year calendar is June. Not September.

September birthday makes the Kid one of the younger ones in the Current system.

if they go back to August 1 birthday start calendar then a September birthday makes them one of the oldest.

                          Take a deep breath.

At least you are honest. lol.

Someone has to be the youngest. They never should have switched it in 2017 and now this is fixing that. However, it will be a mess for a year at minimum

You have your chance to voice your opinion below

U.S. Soccer is kicking off a formal feedback process about birth year and school year registration. We are asking teams, individual participants, parents/guardians, and others to submit their feedback regarding the Birth Year vs. School Year registration debate. Your voice is very important to this discussion.

Player registration is one issue that we are reviewing collaboratively across all levels of play, specifically between birth year (January 1-December 31) and school year (August 1-July 31 or September 1-August 31) registration.

U.S. Soccer has facilitated informal feedback to understand how registration choice fosters growing the game and developing winning teams. We determined that this is a highly complex and important issue that merits a more formal process. Registration affects every child and handling this process with care is a top priority.

Due Date: 12:00 PM CST, Tuesday, November 12, 2024

To submit feedback on this issue, go to: https://www.ussoccer.com/ecosystem-r...r-registration
